Oilers' general manager Lowe rips back at Burke Links5
After a year of enduring the wrath of Brian Burke, Edmonton Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe finally fired back at the Anaheim Ducks' executive on Friday. In a candid interview with Edmonton's Team 1260, Lowe - who stayed relatively quiet each time Burke went after him over the last 12 months - finally let it all out."Where do I begin?," started Lowe. "He's a moron, first of all. Secondly, he ... [link]

Lowe Has Had Enough
Published 7/5/2008 by Paul at KK Hockey
from TSN, In a candid interview with Edmonton’s Team 1260, Lowe - who stayed relatively quiet each time Burke went after him over the last 12 months - finally let it all out. “Where do I begin?,” started Lowe. “He’s a moron, first of all. Secondly, he really believes that any news for the NHL is good news. Thirdly, he loves the limelight and I don’t think anyone in hockey will dispute that. Lastly, he’s in a pathetic hockey market where they can’t get on any page of the newspaper let alone the front page of the sports, so any of this stuff carries on.” read ...

Lowe fires back at Brian Burke...finally

... media junkie and I guess he's achieving what he wants because he gets his name in the headlines. But the reality is, I hate the fact that my name is linked to his. He's an underachieving wanna-be in terms of success in the NHL. He won a Stanley Cup? Great. I've won six Stanley Cups, you want to count rings? Who cares, it's just a little pathetic that he carries on." It's amazing what a lot of pent-up anger can do to aid a verbal laceration. More on Lowe's rant can be found at TSN. Kevin Lowe and Brian Burke: Still Not BFF's
Published 7/5/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Going Five Hole) at Sean Leahy's Going Five Hole
Interesting afternoon today. I head on over to The Team 1260's website to try and catch James Mirtle on an appearance. I was a tad late, but searched around to see if I could download a podcast or replay of the interview. No dice, but I came across something just as good. I clicked on the "Listen Now" link just in time to listen to the entire Kevin Lowe interview which you'll all heard about for the next few days. The interview was supposed to be about Marian Hossa and the Oilers free agency moves I guess, but it was basically Lowe responding to Brian Burke's claims yesterday about the offer-sheet controversy from last summer ...

Saturday Funnies
Published 7/5/2008 by JP (noreply@blogger.com) at Japers' Rink
[image] Two brilliant quotes from a pair of men who have certainly been on the receiving end of our criticisms and mockeries once or twice lead off today's funnies. First, yesterday, as you know, was Independence Day - the day on which the bands which have connected the NHL and Jaromir Jagr were finally dissolved. I can't say that I'll miss J.J. (make sure to stop by Puck Daddy for a fitting eulogy to #68's NHL career ), but have to give him a golf clap for his parting shot: "And I also want to say to the people like Mike Milbury who made their living by criticizing me all the time, that they can kiss my ass." It's a good thing I have a real ...
