Mark Teixeira Rumors: Monday
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com —
ESPN's Buster Olney sums up the Mark Teixeira situation in his blog today. Olney says Teixeira's "leverage has probably maxed out, and now only runs the risk of being diminished." Olney's look at the offers from the five involved teams:
Angels: out of the running. ...

Game Review: Redskins 10 Eagles 3 | Home Mark Teixeira in DC? Don’t count on it. By Spence | December 22, 2008 It seems the California Angels, the team slugging first baseman Mark Teixeira played with at the end of last season and the playoffs, has dropped its pursuit of the free agent. This apparently leaves the Nationals, Orioles, and possibly the Yankees and Red Sox as potential destinations for Teixeira. Buster Olney of ESPN writes that the Yankees are trying to cut payroll for 2009 and Teixeira just doesn’t fit into that plan. The Orioles offer of $140 million has not been upgraded and thus Teixeira will not go to ...
Olney's latest on Teixeira
Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog —
ESPN's Buster Olney has a good read on the Mark Teixeira negotiations. In it, he maintains the Red Sox will still eventually sign him. He also has some Yankees news in there, specifically their role in the negotiations. The Yankees made an initial offer that was believed to be markedly less than what the other offers have been, and since then they have withdrawn that offer. They are pushing to cut their payroll in 2009, and they cannot sign Teixeira and accomplish that unless they could dump the contract of Hideki Matsui and others, in a market flush with corner outfielders. Their focus continues to be on starting pitching, and at ...

... see ya!" As my man Chico Harlan (a Globe sports intern once upon a time) points out, Teixeira has never won a playoff series, although he did hit .467 against the Sox in this year's American League Division Series. ... • The Nats and Orioles both have their original deals on the table. According to Buster Olney (who we now know is not the most reliable dude out there), the Nats' offer is for 8/$160M, and the Orioles is for 7/$140M (not $150M as some had reported). ...
Scott Boras Ignored the Angels' Offer for Mark Teixeira for 2 Weeks
FanHouse —
by Matt Watson Filed under: Angels, AL West, MLB RumorsI chided the Brewers and Yankees for letting the proposed "Mike Cameron for Melky Cabrera" swap die simply for lack of a phone call. Apparently, though, that's how people do business in the big leagues. According to an unnamed source cited in the LA Times, Angels owner Arte Moreno pulled his eight-year, $160 million offer off the table only after Scott Boras let it sit there for two weeks without countering. Moreno sensed by the lack of communication that Boras and Teixeira were holding out for more, but ...
