On Phil Hughes and his velocity Links2
Nothing incites passion in the world of Yankee blogs these days quite like Phil Hughes. Maybe it’s the hype; maybe it stems from the Santana trade that probably wasn’t going to happen anyway. But whatever the cause, when Phil Hughes comes up, passions run high. [link]

RAB: Don't worry so much about the Phranchise
Published 4/7/2008 by Aziz at NJ.com: Pride of the Yankees
Really good stuff from Ben at River Ave. Blues today, who discounts the credibility of Mike Pags' negative scouting report on Phil Hughes : Here's the thing about Pags' scouting report: It's wrong. It's coming from someone who doesn't get along too well with the Yankee brass, and it's designed to jab at the Yanks and their coaches. Basically, Ben tells the blogosphere to chill about Hughes: As for the mechanical issues, what we see is a 21-year-old in his first start of the season reaching the low 90s with his fastball. We saw him hit the mid-90s in the warm weather during ...

The Hardball Times:Anatomy of a player: Phil Hughes

... . But when the 2008 season started and Hughes was still throwing in the low 90s other explanations were needed . Now I am not going to be able to tell you whether Hughes is going to be pitching closer to 95 mph than 90 mph when he comes back, but I can say that this year his fastball has been averaging just over 92 mph, which is almost exactly the same that is was while PITCHf/x was watching him last year. It certainly is possible that when he comes back later this year or maybe next year, he will be back averaging in the mid-90s, but because that isn't the direction the data ...

It's Never Too Early to Change Your Mind About a Game-Changer

The Johan Santana deal still stinks but Carols Gomez is proving to be one fun player to watch. Kid's speed is orgasmic and changes how teams defend the Twins -- which could lead to all sorts of fun. Fun that will include a new single-season Minnesota record for steals. Don't think so? Chuck Knoblauch better enjoy it while he can 'cause the Carlos Counter to "Chuck" Knoblauch is ticking...

It's Now Time For Me To Lay Off Phil Hughes' Fastball

On April 3rd, I wrote: If Hughes is throwing 91 MPH as a 21-year old, he's not going to gain speed as he gets older. It doesn't work that way. Give him about 2,000 big league innings and he will lose four MPH on his fastball (at the least). ...

Who made Roto Royalty and who stayed in a Roto Rut? The first full week of baseball is under our belt, and it left some very surprising revelations.
