Still pondering and disliking the Johan Petro acquisition more and more.
A first-round pick for a talent-challenged player, even a big, makes little sense. Even if the Nuggets don't slump with Melo shelved, that pick is going to be valuable. The draft was not expected to be strong in 2009 but Denver has been throwing away first round selections for years.
Getting Petro's size and a high second rounder is a plus but the cost was not worth it, even when second round money is not guaranteed while first round cheddar is forever banked for a player.
And consider in trade scenarios having a first rounder, even late in the round, gets a team's attention. Second rounders are less valued.
Maybe this is all worthless worrying but it just doesn't sit right at the time.
