I just received a tip that the Orioles are going to hold a news conference at 12:30 PM Eastern to announce a change in managers. ESPN says it's Girardi, but my source says Tom Trebelhorn. It's possible Trebelhorn is temporary... [link]

Baltimore kicks fans in nuts (again); MacPhail to join Orioles

... . The most incompetent franchise currently operating hiring the orchestrator of 12 years of misery? Awesome. I ' m not sure what happened to his supposed anointment as next commissioner of baseball, but apparently the universe has a better sense of humor than I gave it credit for. Go Universe. Supposedly Girardi is going to take over as manager (mercifully cutting his ties to Fox), but until he does Tom Trebelhorn will take the reigns. MacPhail and Trebelhorn back together again! I ' m thinking this would do well as a buddy-cop movie. Fail and Horn? Or, in Spanish, Horn y Fail? Could work. Nevermind, apparently Trebelhorn won ' t be taking over after all. That ' s a shame. I can ' t do justice to the many failing of MacFail, so let me just leave you with links to Mike ' s brilliant piece breaking down the many atrocities wrought by Dandy Andy. ... was also named the team's new COO. Good decision? Tough call. As Baseball Musings points out: During MacPhail's twelve seasons running the Cubs (1995-2006), Chicago's record was 916-1011, a .475 winning percentage, 22nd in the majors. Twenty third were the Orioles at 911-1014, .473. If they're going to hire someone new, shouldn't it be someone with a track record that's different from your team's own history? Time will tell, though it's not like there are very many great baseball minds out there currently unemployed. (Hat-tip: ...

The Orioles Want To Be The Cubs
Published 6/18/2007 by Fornelli at Foul Balls
... . Not that any of us should really care about the Orioles or their new manager, but there's a distinct Chicago flavor to what they're doing in Baltimore today. Why was Perlozzo fired? Well, it's not just the fact that the Orioles suck this year, though it certainly didn't help him any. It's the fact that the Orioles made a hire today as well. The new COO of the Baltimore Orioles is....drumroll please.....Andy MacPhail!! Yes, that Andy MacPhail. The same one who oversaw the operations of our very own Chicago Cubs for twelve seasons. Twelve seasons that saw the Cubs go 916-1,011. That was good for 22nd in the Majors during that span. Who was 23rd, right behind the Cubs? The Orioles at 911-1,014 . They're looking to move up in the world in Baltimore!! It doesn't end there though. Bullpen coach Dave Trembley has been named interim manager in Baltimore, but he might not be in charge very long. That's because the Orioles are v ...
