JONES DEAL PROTECTS ‘BOYS

In acquiring cornerback Pacman Jones, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2005 draft, from the Titans, the Cowboys worked out a new deal with Jones. And that contract heavily protects the Cowboys financially. Per Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News , Jones will earn a base salary of $700,000 in 2008 , with no signing bonus. His salary increases to $1 million in 2009, with a $250,000 roster bonus. The base pay jumps to $3 million in 2010, with another roster bonus in the amount of $255,000 and a reporting bonus of $345,000. In the final year of the contract, the salary spikes ...

If he is named to two Pro Bowls or intercepts seven passes in any two of the first three seasons and participates in 65 percent of the snaps, his base salary would jump up to the 2011 franchise tender, making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid cornerbacks. Now those are some pretty convincing reasons to stay out of trouble.
