Papelbon Rips Hank
Papelbon Rips Hank
Though this has nothing to do with this story I felt like posting it. It's Papelbon at a recent charity dance-off the Red Sox held. Nice shirt idiot. From Don Amore : "I don't know if he's trying to stir things up or not," he said. "I sure as hell don't care, because he sure as hell hasn't stepped foot on a baseball field. He needs to just stick to pencil-pushing, I guess. It's ...

"You just keep letting A-Rod knock you all over the yard, OK there Paps?"

I hate to tell you, but Slappy's only 2-5 with a home run & 2 strikeouts against Papelbon.  Solid numbers, but certainly not "knock you all over the yard" numbers.  Now 2 World Series in 4 years, those are some good numbers.

I don't know what that means in new-fangled metrics, but I'll take a .400 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage any day of the week. Even from A-Rod.

I'm just joking around... But if you recall, those were two big hits. One was that opposite-field game winning homer in the rain at Fenway, the other was a game-tying single, that he pulled into left-center, also at Fenway. So he’s literally knocked him all over the yard.

And if you're going to call A-Rod "slappy", you must also call Pedroia "slappy". He tried the same thing in Cleveland during the ALCS this year.

The hits part may be true, I don't remember, to be honest. My point was that it's 4 at-bats.  It's not like he's 40 for 50 with 15 home runs.  It's still a very good line against a pitcher.  But it's not guranteed-domination every time at the plate like Yankee fans would like to imply.

As for the Pedroia thing, he was trying to slide headfirst into first and a Yankee fan site doctored some pictures to try and show that he was slapping like Slappy.   The reason it didn't make any waves is because it didn't happen.  That's all from me on the subject.

The Shy, Retiring Hank Steinbrenner’s Latest Foe : Jonathan Papelbon
Can't Stop The Bleeding — (pic swiped from Boston Dirt Dogs) “He needs to just stick to pencil-pushing,” opined reliever Jonathan Papelbon (above) of the Yankees’ Boston-baiting Hank Steinbrenner, a remark that didn’t go unanswered by The Boss Jr. From the New York Post’s Kevin Kernan : “Being insulted by Papelbon is like being attacked by a mouse,” Steinbrenner told The Post. “John Henry and I traded a couple of jabs good-naturedly,” he added. “So now, all of a sudden, this ...

Please Stop Speaking, Hank
Babes Love Baseball — I thought the media made it clear they had very little interest in what Hank Steinbrenner has to say. Perhaps I was wrong. This week's outspoken comment came in the form of an insult, I guess? Steinbrenner apparently wasn't pleased with Jonathon Papelbon's recent pencil-pushing comment. "Being insulted by Papelbon is like being attacked by a mouse."Well... what if the mouse was rabid? Pretty sure that can kill a person. In response to that ludicrous comparison, Paps said, "Whatever dude." [Extra ...

We’ve been so caught up in the goings-on of the NFL (not to mention Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo ) that we almost forgot one last tidbit to the Hank Steinbrenner – Red Sox Nation “controversy.” Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon , always good for a quote (or a dance move; see below) offered his two cents on Hank Steinbrenner’s trash-talking, per ESPN:  ...

Jon Papelbon has already established himself as an arrogant punk and a perfect fit for the zoo in Boston. Now he has decided to chime in on the Hank Steinbrenner -Red Sox nation scenario. Pap told Hank to "stick to his pencil pushing". Well Pap, stick to pitching and making your ugly mug even uglier on the mound.
