Bill Simmons Writes on Deadspin; Universe Scheduled to Collapse by 6:00 EDT

... Wait wait wait wait. ESPN's Bill Simmons? That guy, the Sports Guy? ESPN.com's most decorated columnist is writing for ESPN's most hated nemesis?! (link is sort of NSFW: language and a crude fellatic photoshop that looks more like monochromatic vomit) ...
Deadspin Is Awesome Today
Foul Balls —
I mean, you start the day by posting pictures of me, and the average reader has to wonder, "How can today get any better?" I didn't think it could, but damn it if Deadspin hasn't proven me wrong today. First they actually convinced Bill Simmons to write a post there today (the best thing he's written in years, by the way), and now this video from the Basketball Jones' J.E. Skeets making fun of the whole Costas Now/Buzz Bissinger fiasco. Brilliant. (Some very NSFW language going on here, so turn the volume down a bit. Just don't do any actual work.)

A Quick Aside
RealClearSports - Blog —
As you may or may not know, Will Leitch, a guy who is on the Mt. Rushmore of sports blogs (Mt. Blogsmore?), is leaving as the editor of Deadspin to go work at New York Magazine -- this is his last week. In fact, tomorrow is his last day at the site, so today, they've been roasting him. And it's fantastic.
They even got ESPN's Bill Simmons to stop by and offer his thoughts. Seriously.

Per CS's heads up from yesterday's comments. I don't read Deadspin anymore (although I probably should, because I'm getting sick and fucking tired of going over to The Big Lead and finding post after post that's basically a picture of a mediocre looking chick that he insists is a "Vegas 10", and then some horrible sports related prediction) so this slipped past me. ...
TMS Tribute: Goodbye William F. Leitch
Four Habs Fans —
Yes, we know we wrote about it when he announced it, but we must acknowledge that today is Will Leitch's last day at Deadspin. We have said it a million times, but there would be no FHF without DS. There would be no sports blogosphere as we know it without Will Leitch. Yesterday the blogosphere turned out to roast / pay tribute to Leitch on DS. We really enjoyed Bill Simmons' piece and the KSK guys. We think they are all worth a read, and they show what he meant to all of us who write sports blogs from our mom's basements. Or ...

…and perhaps not so well versed in using search engines, either. While a star-studded collection of sports media icons paid homage to outgoing Deadspin editor Wil Leitch yesterday (the funniest entry being J.E. Skeets’ recreation of the “Costas Now” blog segment), Page 2’s Bill Simmons offered the following tribute :

Will Leitch, One Last Time

... now." I guess you could say, I was hooked.
For more than two years now, I've read that site everyday, following along as Will Leitch crafted something special. About a month ago, right here on this site, I wrote, "...he's probably the one reason I'm writing on this site now. He was the leader of this blog 'revolution,' and that place will always be his..." And now, on his last day, I think both of those statements are more true than ever before.
They're paying him all sorts of tributes over there, and it's all well-deserved (even The ...

... and fraternization with the enemy. If he is acting like a diva, I'd have hoped that ESPN wouldn't cave to it, because for all of Simmons' good qualities -- he's a good writer who does a great job and draws a big audience when he's committed -- Simmons is not as special as some say he is and he's certainly not irreplaceable (no one in the land of the Internet is). However, if he's being punished, it would be ironic indeed given that it is Simmons himself who has done more than anyone to popularize one of ...
AaronGleeman.com — ... . As a huge Simmons fan his taking 10 weeks off makes me sad, but if it eventually leads to him breaking free from ESPN and finding a new home where he can be completely unfiltered, that would probably make up for it. Until then, his highly amusing send-off of Will Leitch over at Deadspin will have to suffice. ...

... Simmons to launch his own site? No matter what people think or say about him, he, more than anyone is responsible for the explosion of the sports blogosphere. He’d have no problem selling ad space or getting his overhead covered by a sponsor, could say or do whatever he wanted and would still draw a huge readership. Simmons under Disney control is good, but not as edgy or funny as he could be. Remember his roast of departing Deadspin editor Will Leitch? A glimpse of how funny Simmons unfiltered can be.
