Jags Can't Live on Bread (and Butter) Alone

For the second time in as many days, I watched an offense completely outsmart itself last night. The Jacksonville Jaguars may have the most explosive backfield in the league, but they came out firing in a 29-7 loss to the Colts. Former Arizona State head coach Dirk Koetter called for passes on 13 of Jacksonville's first 19 snaps for no apparent reason. A team that prides itself in brute strength turned to finesse at the worst possible moment. On Sunday, Vikings head coach Brad Childress refused to utilize rookie sensation Adrian Peterson in a game the Cowboys appeared interested in losing. And just like the ...
Things I saw and heard today (and some links)...

My essay on our time in the 'hole will be coming in a couple of days, but for now, here's a random list of stuff I saw on my trip through North Florida and Georgia today...1. A van with a hand-written, cardboard sign in the window that said, "When a Clinton opens their mouth, crap comes out". Aside from the obvious grammatical questions, the weirdness of having the passion to go to the trouble of writing that out and displaying it in a van, is offset by the fact that the writer used magic marker and a piece of corrugated cardboard to do it. 2. A billboard that read: "Sausage! Just like Granddad used to make!".3. An ESPN cross ...
Don't get mad. Go ahead and laugh whenever dumbass players calls the Colts "finesse"

Whenever teams (cough*cough*Jacksonville*cough*cough) would label the Colts as a "soft" or a "finesse" team, it used to bother me. I mean, for all of Jacksonville's supposed toughness and grit, they've still lost 8 of 12 against the Colts since 2002, and they've never won the AFC South while Indy has won it four straight years. Oh yeah, and Indy won the Super Bowl. ...
Jaguars Lost a Must-Win Game: Now What?
Published 10/27/2007 by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
Filed under: Jaguars, NFL CoachingThe Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night, dropping the Jags two games behind the Colts, and giving the Colts the tiebreaker as well. The need to stay competitive with Indianapolis led Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio to refer to Monday as a "must-win" game. So what, exactly, do you do after you lose a must-win game?Obviously, you keep playing the rest of the season. And in the Jaguars' case, they're 4-2 and still have a good shot of a wild card spot, although the loss of David Garrard obviously makes that a little tougher. (Think they wish ...
The Road to No. 1 Starts in Raleigh

The Colts began their road to the Super Bowl, really, on Monday night against Jacksonville. Next is 4-2 Carolina, and it’s not going to be easy. Then, well…then there’s New England and San Diego, one giant and one returning-to-form-giant in the following weeks. And speaking of Giants, Eli Manning’s in London today playing the red-headed stepchildren of the NFL. Yeah, way to go Goodell…you try to spread the NFL’s influence by sending a mediocre team on a streak and skidmarks of the NFL. Gosh, I can’t see why the world wouldn’t eat futbol americana up. Alright, the Colts…First, take a look at NFL Network’s Playbook for the Colts . Start noticing during today’s game ...
