... The speedy Jones, a first-round draft choice of the Lions in 2004, is recovering from a torn ACL. The Patriots had been high on Jones when he was coming out of Virginia Tech, and were prepared to scoop him up with the No. 32 overall selection in that draft, but the Lions swooped in with a trade and picked him at No. 31.
The Patriots are well stocked at running back, with Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel atop the depth chart.
The NFL Network's Adam Schefter first reported on the Patriots' visit with Jones. ...

Pats bring Kevin Jones in for a visit

A news tidbit seemed to escape most media outlets, that being the Patriots bringing in former Detroit running back Kevin Jones for a free agent visit. Jones was a first round draft pick in 2004, selected at #31 overall. Filed under: Lions, Patriots, Boston, Detroit, NFL Free AgencyThe New England Patriots had one of the best offenses in NFL history last year, but that doesn't mean they aren't trying to add more playmakers. Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports (via PFT) that free agent running back Kevin Jones, who was released by the Detroit Lions in March, recently visited with New England. Jones looked like one of the league's best young running backs in 2004, when he gained 1,133 yards on 4.7 yards a carry as a rookie. But since then he has never had even a 700-yard season or four yards a carry, and he's ...
In The Red Zone: Patriots Always Looking For Depth
Published 5/13/2008 by Steve at SOX & Dawgs
The NFL Network is reporting that the New England Patriots had a visit from free agent running back Kevin Jones at Gillette Stadium last week. The Patriots have always been high on Jones and were prepared to draft him with the 32nd pick in the 2004 NFL Draft but Detroit made a trade and grabbed him at 31.
The speedy Jones, who came out of Virginia Tech, is recovering from a torn ACL. The Patriots are pretty stacked at running back with Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Kyle Eckel and Heath Evans but an extra body has never hurt anyone as injuries tend to mount in a position that really takes a weekly beating. ...
