Yanks Could Go After Varitek???
Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog —
From The Boston Herald (hat tip to Steve Lombardi): It should require something closer to a two- to four-year deal worth $10-11 million a year to sign Varitek. He is coming off a four-year, $40 million deal. Teams expected to be in on the bidding include the Tigers and Angels. Do not dismiss the chances of the Yankees going after Varitek as doubt remains about whether Posada’s shoulder, surgically repaired last season, will allow him to catch in 2009. . . . This guy could barely stay above the Mendoza line last year. If Posada can't catch, use a minor leaguer, use Jose Molina, use anyone, just please stay away from this washed up Red Sox ...
Stirring the Yankees-Red Sox pot, for no reason
Bugs & Cranks —
The absolute fear, loathing and obsession Boston Red Sox fans, and media members who cover the team, have with the New York Yankees never ceases to amaze me.
The latest example came in Sunday’s Boston Herald, where Michael Silverman tossed out a pair of completely unrealistic gems involving the Yankees.

Do not dismiss the chances of the Yankees going after (Jason) Varitek as doubt remains about whether (Jorge) Posada’s shoulder, surgically repaired last season, will allow him to catch in 2009.
Then, Silverman beat the rivalry drum a little harder with a Manny Ramirez comment.

Burnett set to receive offer from Yanks. Five-year contract/$80 million
Zell's Pinstripe Blog —
First it was Sabathia’s huge contract, but now the Yankees are focusing on A.J. Burnett & Derek Lowe. The Yankees will reportedly offer A.J. a 5-year contract worth $80 million. A.J. Burnett is coming off one of his best seasons of his career, and it was also a season in which he stayed healthy. He has made multiple trips to the DL throughout his career, which is why some fans are against this move. People are comparing him to Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright, but I don’t think that’s fair. Burnett might have been injured like those other two, but the stats he puts up are far better. Burnett (when healthy) is a far better pitcher than those two. Nobody can predict the future, and know whether or not someone ...
