Perception of strikeouts changing | MLB.com: News
It's an epoch of power in Major League Baseball. Even now, with home run numbers down a bit from record highs earlier in the decade, the ball is going out of the park more than it has in any previous era in the history of the game. The corollary of that, though, is that it's also the era of ...

Maybe he also gets a Lamborghini, a new house, and exclusive use of the Burj Al Arab helicopter pad. Maybe he can hire Pat Burrell to babysit his kid. ... (more) The Market For Adam Dunn

Strikeout Increase
The Rays Party — MLB.com put up a interesting article on the increase in the amount of strikeouts of hitters in both leagues in the past ten years or so. They mentioned the growing popularity of sabermetricians or what they called "statheads", arguing that it doesn't matter how much a batter strikeouts, but how many extra bases they hit or have a high on-base percentage. I agree that a batter shouldn't be judged entirely on his negative stats but also on the positive stats like home runs and such. Usually the hitters that strike out the most are usually guys who can get over ten homers a year easily. Anyway here is a list of the Rays top three strikeout hitters every season since 1998 with their ...

Around The Web: Outfield Arms, Strikeouts, And Erin Andrews
Fire Ned Colletti Now — ... Ethier is 11th among right fielders (1.5 Runs Per 200), Matt Kemp is 1st among center fielders (11.3 Runs Per 200), Manny Ramirez is 5th among left fielders (4.1 Runs Per 200), and Juan Pierre is 24th among left fielders (-8.6 Runs Per 200). UZR and Plus/Minus are great at measuring range for outfielders, but they both don't account for runs that an outfielder might save with his arm. As you can see, this drastically changes the defensive value of some players. MLB.com: Great article by Matthew Leach on the changing perception of strikeouts. ...

The Frustrating Tale of Adam Dunn
Jorge Says No! — Adam Dunn is a strikeout hitter. Baseball people expect Dunn to strikeout at least 160 times a season to go along with the 40 or so home runs that he will hit on average. However, I don't think there were too many baseball people who could have predicted that Dunn would have struck out this badly on the free agent market. With ten days to go until spring training, Dunn remains stuck in free agent purgatory. There have been very few suitors for Dunn's services despite his tremendous power hitting ability. Dunn initially priced himself out of the market by looking for a 4 year/$56 million dollar contract. Now, it looks like Dunn will be lucky to get half of that. And ...
