Perry Hill not coming back for 2010
North Side Notch — Perry Hill, the Pirates' 1st base coach and infield instructor, will not be returning for the 2010 season. GM Neal Huntington said that the club made a very aggressive offer to sign Hill for '10 and beyond, but was unable to retain him. Hill is widely regarded as one of the best infield coaches in all of baseball and his footprints in Pittsburgh are definitely visible. Some obvious sings of Hills work: Andy Laroche's UZR/150 in '08: -0.7 Andy Laroche's UZR/150 in '09: 3.6 Ronny Cedeno's UZR/150 in '08: -27.4 Ronny Cedeno's UZR/150 in '09: -2.5 Freddy Sanchez' UZR/150 in '08: ...

Perry Hill Not Returning
Bucs Dugout — Colin Dunlap reports that Perry Hill is not going to be coaching with the Pirates in 2010. The way the story reads...it sounds like he will not be coaching at all during the 2010 season. The Pirates have reportedly left the door open for him to return to the team at some point if he so chooses. In addition, Indianapolis pitching coach Ray Searage has been promoted to the Pirates. It sounds like he will be a pitching coach-in-waiting for when Joe Kerrigan departs.

Perry Hill not returning
BUCCO Fans.comAccording to Chuck Finder on the PBC Blog , Perry Hill won't be returning to the Pittsburgh Pirates next season. The loss of Hill could be bigger than the loss of any player the Pirates have traded away the last two seasons. Hill is an excellent infield defensive coach, and his impact has been clear this off-season. Take Andy LaRoche, for example. LaRoche looked horrible on defense last year, and had a -0.1 UZR in his 502.1 innings with the Dodgers and Pirates. This year, under Hill, LaRoche put up a 5.4 UZR, and looked like a Gold Glove candidate on many occasions. Then there's ...

No Perry Hill in 2010
Where Have You Gone, Andy Van Slyke? — ... The Pirates announced today that Perry Hill will not return to their coaching staff in 2010. It's disappointing news, but it doesn't seem all that surprising as Hill's indicated since the end of the season that he's unlikely to return next year. There will certainly be speculation about why Hill chose not to return, but I find it really hard to buy into the story that the Pirates told Hill that they wouldn't be cleaning house in 2009, because it seemed pretty clear to me from the outset that that was the team's plan. He has a very young son and his wife was sick shortly after ...
