Latest Johan Santana Rumors
Published 12/23/2007 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
... The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo has the latest on the lingering Johan Santana saga.
The Red Sox are standing pat with their offer of Coco Crisp, Jon Lester, Justin Masterson, and Jed Lowrie. I've said it before - I consider this an excellent offer, though I might try to find a permutation that involves Jacoby Ellsbury and another player rather than Crisp/Lester. The Twins seem to like this offer too; they just want to see if the Yankees crack and ...

No Santana Claus in New York or Boston Until After the Holidays
Published 12/24/2007 by Pat Lackey at FanHouse
... couldn't tell by the level of activity here at the MLB 'Haus over the last couple days (and at other baseball blogs all over the internet), baseball pretty much shuts down for the holidays. It's the one sport that's smack in the middle of its off-season in December, so it makes a lot of sense. Accordingly, there's not much movement on the biggest story of the off-season, the exploits of Johan Santana. Still, that doesn't mean the deal is dead. Nick Cafado at the Boston Globe had this to say yesterday: Since the winter meetings, nothing has changed with ...

Twins Lower Price for Santana?
Published 12/26/2007 by joe at Mets Today
... Based on this turn of events, a Yankee package for Santana would presumably include Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and Jeffrey Marquez as the main chips. Compare that to the Red Sox’ supposed “final offer” of Coco Crisp, Jon Lester, Justin Masterson, and Jed Lowrie. One would think that if the Twins are willing to consider those offers from American League teams, they should be equally interested in a similar package that would send their Cy Young ace out of the league. ...
Twins no longer demanding Kennedy

... It appears that the Twins will soon be looking for the best, final offers from the Yanks or Sox — though we’re still not sure if the Yankees are putting anything on the table. We’ll see, though. ...

Santana update: Has Bill Smith’s patience cost him his leverage?
Published 12/28/2007 by Daniel Rathman at The MLB Source
... A second option is for Smith to set his own deadline for interested teams to submit their best offers. The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo recently reported that this was the route the Twins were taking, though Stark’s sources seem to refute that theory, and this course of action also comes with considerable pitfalls. For one, there’s a distinct possibility that the Twins would receive the same unsatisfactory offers that they’ve already been pondering for over a month. Or, less likely, Smith might receive no offers at all, with teams ...
