The Greg Oden surgery reaction
Published 9/14/2007 by Casey Holdahl at Blazers Blog - OregonLive.com
... ee him. Lo and behold, Oden was walking by himself down the last stretch of the hallway, about 50 feet in all, right before the exit to head outside. And you know what? He walked like a 50-year-old man. His posture was screwed up. He had the Fred Sanford walk going. If you saw him from behind and just studied his walk, you would have thought it was a retired player, someone like Patrick Ewing or Robert Parish. I couldn't believe it. I didn't stop talking about it the rest of the night. Greg Oden walked like a guy who had bad knees. If I were Portland's GM and watched Oden walk across the room, that would have been it for me. The next day, I even called my buddy Sully (who works for the Celtics) just to have the obligatory, "Yo, we might have dodged a bullet May 22; Greg Oden walks like a 50-year-old man" conversation. Now, you could argue this is the single dumbest thing I've ever written, and you might even be right. Hard to argue with him right now. -- Dave at Blazer's Edge ...

Trailblazers Experiencing Suns' October 2005

... under circumstances that are eerily similar to Amare's. I am hesitant to even attempt adding anything to the excellent words of Blazer's Edge writer Dave, but I will offer a few thoughts on the aftermath of my own experience as a fan on the receiving end of such devastating news. While obviously it would have been great to have Amare for the 2005-06 season (and it very well could have been a championship year had he been available), there is absolutely no doubt that our team gave us a season to remember in spite of his absence. I have said here many times that the 2005-06 Suns were probably my favorite sports team ever. With everyone betting against them, our guys showed a level of resolve and heart that I don't think I have seen before or since. As bad as it seems (and is) right now in Portland, this is a great opportunity for Blazers fans to experience something similar, albeit on a slightly differen ...
We Can Rebuild Him

... . I'm sure tomorrow he'll continue to stay on top of things. I'm very impressed with how well Abbott, as a Blazers fan, seems to be handling the news, particularly in keeping Oden's interests in the foreground. Similarly, Blazer's Edge has an admirable stoicism that I'm not sure I'd be capable of if I were in their position. Even as a general NBA fan without any personal connection to the Portland franchise, I still feel personally wounded by the news. I know Henry's right that what we're feeling can't be remotely comparable to what be Greg must be going through, but still think we can afford ourselves a certain amount of self-pity, as long as we keep that reality in mind. ...
