Pettitte Has Three-Year, $36 Million Offer?
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com —
... SI.com's Jon Heyman says Andy Pettitte's agents are telling teams he had a three-year, $36MM offer in hand (the team is not known). This apparently has not moved the Yankees to increase their one-year, $10MM offer. ...
Could the Mets make a play for Andy Pettitte?
The 'Ropolitans | NY Mets Baseball Blog —
Andy Pettitte is a free agent who we all know can handle pitching in New York. Could the Mets be making a play for the longtime Yankee? According to Jon Heyman, an unnamed team supposedly has a three-year, $36 million offer on the table for Pettitte. Hopefully, that team is not the Mets. I would take Pettitte on a one year contract worth $8 million, though he likely won't sign for that. How about a two year deal worth $14 million? It's a bit off from this suggested $12 million a year he's supposedly getting from Team Anonymous (which I suspect doesn't ...
Pettitte has another offer?
Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog —
From the "are you kidding me?" files, Jon Heyman has interesting news regarding Andy Pettitte. It's been a mystery to many why veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte hasn't taken the Yankees' $10-million offer. But here could be a clue as to why he hasn't: Pettitte's people apparently are telling folks he has a $36-million, three-year offer from another, unnamed team.I honestly don't believe that for a second. Heyman says the news of this mysterious offer hasn't caused the Yankees to change their one-year, $10 million offer, nor has ...

... to Philly's WIP (via The 700 Level), the Phillies are bringing 46-year-old Jamie Moyer back into the fold for two more years. Yes, this from the same team that wanted its fans to believe that 32-year-old Pat Burrell was starting to resemble The Cryptkeeper before going out to replace him with an even crustier 37-year-old Raul Ibanez. Meanwhile, Andy Pettitte is the subject of this offseason's looniest whisper. According to SI's Jon Heyman (via MLBTR), the 36-year-old southpaw has (had?) an offer in hand from ...
Yankees May Lose Pettitte
Hot Foot —
So far we have heard about how Yankee GM Brian Cashman has flown to Texas to give free agent pitcher Andy Pettitte an ultimatum; “sign or we are moving on”. We have also read that if Pettitte doesn’t sign with the Yankess (some think he was offered a one year for 10 million) he is some kind of phony.
If SI.com’s Jon Heyman is right this “phony” might have a better offer on the table:
It’s been a mystery to many why veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte ...

Andy Pettitte to Sign Inexplicable Contract?
FanHouse —
... So why hasn't he signed the Yankees one-year offer of $10 million yet? Well, his agent is floating rumors that he's been offered a three year contract worth $36 million from someone. The team hasn't been revealed, so we can't be totally sure this is true. I highly doubt someone would break the bank like this, considering all the circumstances. ...
Three-Year $36 MM Offer Made To Pettitte?
Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog —
From Jon Heyman: It's been a mystery to many why veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte hasn't taken the Yankees' $10-million offer. But here could be a clue as to why he hasn't: Pettitte's people apparently are telling folks he has a $36-million, three-year offer from another, unnamed team.I'm surprised anyone would offer him that kind of deal, not because he's not worth it, but because the only competition is a one-year $10 million offer from the Yanks. This might just be a way for Andy and his agents to get the Yankees to offer more money. They ...

... IS there a doubt that Andy Pettite is going back to The Bronx? I guess with all the free agent hubbub down there, he kind of got lost in the shuffle. But with the kind of money they're throwing around they could pay him $30M to be a one out lefty specialist. I give this news a bi...zzzzzz ...

... for $243.5 million in total. But it isn't believed that this $36-million claim has moved the Yankees to change their offer by even one dollar, which could indicate they question whether such an offer exists. [...] If Pettitte doesn't ever take the Yankees' longstanding offer, the Yankees will consider either making an offer to Ben Sheets or resuming discussions with Derek Lowe to round out their revamped rotation.
On the heels of that particular report from SI.com's Jon Heyman came this similiary distressing bit of Monday ...

MULTIYEAR OFFER FOR PETTITTE NOT CRAZY AT ALL
Zoner Sports —
Over at SI, Jon Heyman says it has been a mystery as to why Andy Pettitte hasn’t taken the Yanks 1 year, $10 million (or so) offer.
“But here could be a clue as to why he hasn’t: Pettitte’s people apparently are telling folks he has a $36-million, three-year offer from another, unnamed team.”
Is that crazy? Well the Phils just gave Jamie Moyer a 2-year deal and he is 46 years old. Pettitte had elbow troubles last year–amongst other issues–but he is ...

... Curiously, it is also written that Pettitte has attracted no other "serious interest," across the league, which provides compelling anecdotal evidence to back up the prevailing theory that the three-year, $36 million offer Pettitte allegedly received from an unnamed team was nothing more than a fabrication on the part of his handlers designed to drive up the Yankees' bid. No luck so far. ...

River Avenue Blues —
... Overall he was 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA.
But it doesn’t appear that Pettitte has anything better, and if he wants to pitch in 2009 he will have to wait. If the Yankees can trade either Nick Swisher or Xavier Nady, that may open up payroll room to resubmit a similar offer to Pettitte, a beloved Yankee. This time we’d have to think Pettitte might finally except.
So much for that three-year, $36-million deal that Heyman himself reported on in mid-December.
Personally, I go back and forth on this one. As I mentioned ...
