On ESPN.com yesterday, you might have read Jason Sobel's gory tale of the man man who shot a 66 on one nightmarish golf hole . (The 17th at TPC Sawgrass, if you're into that type of thing.) It's a terrifying tale, no less scary that we don't play ...The Players: Phil Mickelson Ready to Defend

(C. O'Neal/Flickr) CAN PHIL MICKELSON make some noise at TPC Sawgrass this week? The defending champion doesn’t have Tiger Woods to contend with, not that El Tigre has had a lot of success at Ponte Vedra Beach. Both Phil and Tiger have won The Players Championship once. Mickelson says he’s ready to go. From his Web site, following are a few Lefty sound bites on his tournament preparation. ...This Week's Schedule

“I think they should blow it up.” −Ernie Els, on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass ERNIE ELS HAD JUST birdied the 16th hole at TPC Sawgrass and stood at two under in his opening round at The Players Championship. Then he made a mess of Pete Dye’s revenge, the par-3 17th hole. His wedge landed about seven yards short of the island green. His third shot narrowly escaped the water. Three putts later and ...9 Best Holes In Golf

In honor of the TPC at Sawgrass and the most famous No. 17 hole, I thought I'd put together the nine holes in golf I personally would most like to play to see where I stand. Clearly, the island green in Ponte Verda Beach, Florida is among them. For those who golf regularly, I need not explain what the presence of water 50 yards off the fairway can do to one's mind. Factor in a green ...Els Blows Up ... He Blows Up Real Good

I mentioned a couple days ago that Tiger Woods once called TPC Sawgrass' No. 17 island green "gimmicky." He didn't think that hole should come so late in the round, with its potential to ruin an otherwise good round. Today, Ernie Els had an otherwise good round ruined on No. 17, which he triple-bogeyed. Els would probably use a word stronger than "gimmicky" to describe the 17th. In fact ... ...The Players Championship - 17th Hole Sawgrass

The Letting Others Have A Chance Tour continues today in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with The Players Championship, arguable the biggest non-major in golf. Since Tiger Woods was generous enough to let others make some money and pretend they're making progress by winning a few events, this weekend should be entertaining for those who are capable of watching golf without Eldrick. ...17th at TPC Sawgrass: ‘Most Terrifying Two Seconds’

(Russ Glasson/Flickr) The ardent golfer would play Mount Everest if somebody put a flagstick on top. −Pete Dye DO YOU EVER WATCH a golf telecast and secretly wish you could try your luck on a certain hole? The par-3 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass brings out that desire in me. So does the par-3 12th hole at Augusta National. May 7, 2008 Pete Dye, designer of the TPC Sawgrass, has been selected for the World Golf Hall of Fame. Dye was selected in the Lifetime Achievement Category, and joins architects Donald Ross, Alister Mackenzie and Robert Trent Jones, Sr. “This is really a surprise,” Dye said. “With all the great people that are in the Hall of Fame, it’s an honor to be part of them because they’ve all ...Some Gimmicks are Better Than Others

Tiger Woods once called the island green 17th at TPC Sawgrass "gimmicky." And from an old-school, golf-course-architecture standpoint, maybe it is. Woods explained his statement by saying that he had no problem with island greens, he just felt this one comes too late in the round. (Giving a single hole - a single shot, really - too much emphasis.) That hole wasn't the first island green, and ...BREAKING NEWS: MY DAD STINKS AT GOLF
