He pitched 230 innings, recording 140 K’s, a 1.20 WHIP and a nearly 4:1 K/BB. He probably won’t repeat those numbers this season. But, because he has been pretty crappy so far, his price probably isn’t as high as it was in February, when it was rumored the A’s were asking for Homer Bailey and Joey Votto for Blanton. ... Today's A's rumors circulate around the Philadelphia Phillies interest in Joe Blanton. Not much has changed since I last looked at Blanton last month, he still sports an ERA close to 5 and his BB, K, and HR numbers have barely moved. His BABIP has climbed a bit to .310, which is strange considering the A's sport the best defensive efficiency rating in baseball at .724. While this is still probably a sample size issue, it's possible hitters are able to square up better on Blanton's pitches and hit them to where the fielder's just can't reach. It doesn't help ...
