Pat Gillick finally made a move for starting pitching Thursday when he acquired right-handed starter Joe Blanton from the Oakland Athletics for prospects Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman, and Matt Spencer. But is Blanton really worth the risk of three promising prospects?

Tonight I heard that the Phillies acquired Joe Blanton through a trade of 3 minor league prospects. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies have acquired Joe Blanton from the A's for Josh Outman, Adrian Cardenas, and Matt Spencer. It's being reported on ESPN right now. The As are apparently getting three minor leaguers in return. So I guess Beane was not as sold on this team's contention chances as he said in interviews.
