PITTSBURGH -- They won't be the highest profile of names, but there are a number of relievers that Pirates general manager Neal Huntington continues to pursue as he looks to add to his bullpen options for 2009. Currently, the Pirates have most of their core of relievers back from last season. ...

Where Have You Gone, Andy Van Slyke? —
This news just broke across the top of the PG: Tim Neveritt will replace Lanny Fratarre in the booth.
The PG reports that the Pirates have nearly reached an extenstion with Doumit while McLouth isn't close. This intuitively makes sense; both players are in their first year of arbitration and Doumit's tendons are gossamer strands of feather while McLouth probably feels like he's worth a lot more if he whacks 26 homers again next year.
John Perrotto mentioned yesterday that the Pirates were at the "top" of the Daniel Cabrera negotiations. I don't know what that means, but it's rumored that someone offered him a deal for more than one year and I suppose the Pirates might ...

Raise the Jolly Roger —
[The Brewers signed Chris Duffy to a minor league deal], officially ending his wacky stay in the Pirates organization. Watch him all of a sudden get his head on straight, make it to the majors, and completely dominate every game we play against the Brewers. Just watch.
Ryan Doumit is [close to a contract extension with the Pirates, but Nate McLouth is not]. The Pirates control both players through 2011 anyway, so whatever. I guess I would rather see it the other way, since Doumit is much more fragile.
[Pirates.com] mentions Ray King as another goofy bullpen option. King, a lefty, is nearly 35 and only pitched in 12 games last year with the Nationals. He was ...
