Redsauce I see the advantages of making the MFYanksters go to the shorter series, but I think this guy's concentrating way way way too much on the fear that other teams have of Joba. Their weak starting pitching? Their thin bullpen? None of these other factors come into play--other teams are afraid of one thing & one thing only---Joba.

... THE RIVALRY NEVER ENDS: The New York Post's Larry Brooks reports that the team with the best regular-season record in the American League will have the choice of playing the Division Series over eight days, or over seven. (Whichever option they don't choose will be imposed on the other series.) And Brooks speculates the Sox would ''jump at the chance to play the eight-day series if for no other reason than to require the Yankees to play the seven-day series so Joba Chamberlain would only be available for three games, instead of the four in which he'd be allowed to pitch in the extended version'' ...
MLB rules. Sorry Joba.

... by throwing a couple of bullpen sessions in Toronto this week. Larry Brooks talks about the postseason schedule and how the choice of which series schedule to follow will belong to the team that finishes with the best record in the AL. Brooks notes that if the Angels catch Boston for the league's best record, he thinks they'll opt to play in the series over seven days instead of eight, limiting Joba Chamberlain's availability. We tend to think that any team that gets that far isn't going to base their entire schedule around possibly facing Chamberlain. They'll more likely choose their schedule based on their own needs.
Terrible Joba
