Monday, July 28, 2008 Player spotlight: Manny Corpas Posted by Derek Carty at 1:06am With the trade deadline looming, a deal that would have one of the biggest fantasy impacts would be one involving Brian Fuentes . If Fuentes, the closer for the Colorado Rockies, left, Manny Corpas . Corpas started the year as closer but struggled mightily, and it wasn't all bad luck. His skills ...

Your analyses (is that the plural of analysis?) have gotten much more in-depth lately from just checking out BABIP numbers and LD%s. I really like the potential of the raw power and xHr/Fb thing, it seemed to explain a lot of fluctuations in the stat. And I'm sure you enjoy using your new PITCHf/x data knowledge to look into players, but honestly how long do these articles take you? Is it worth it? I'm not saying is it worth it to delve into the PITCHf/x data so deeply, but is it necessary to shows the reader the purity of your research by displaying all of the charts and data that have little impact on the overall conclusion. I can understand doing this in the beginning when introducing these new ideas to everyone, but I hope that eventually you start weaning us off the unnecessary data and only showing us the charts with great impact, the one that explains the numbers. I think it will save you writing time, me reading time, and you could even include more players in one article. Regardless of that, I think your attempt in using the PITCHf/x data is great and I wish I could  use it as well. . .hmmm maybe that would make an interesting article. Teaching us how.

Thanks very much for the comment, Paul.  I definitely like hearing what people don't like about what I'm doing (what they do like is nice too :) ), mostly because I'm writing to try and help people out.  I want to provide what they want to see and what can help them.

I've been thinking recently, especially with this article, that I'm giving too much detail, although some people (like JR. below) enjoy seeing exactly what's going on.  It's a difficult balancing act.

I never want to be one of those analysts who makes statements without backing up what he's saying with facts, although I definitely understand where you're coming from that too many can be confusing or maybe even unnecessary if you trust that I've done the backwork.

The thing with PITCHf/x is that there is so much that can be looked at and so many new doors to open that it's difficult to gauge exactly how much I detail I should go into.  Even with Corpas, there were things I left out simply because the article was running really long, but it still seems it ran long.  I'll definitely try to scale it back a little and figure out the best way to get my point across and be succinct.

I include a good number of graphs because I think graphs are easier for people to read than if I tried to express everything in words.  With the graphs, I sort of hope people glance at them (really study them only if they're interested) and sort of use them to follow along with the things I point out about them in my writing.  Again, though, some people might not like the graphs and might be overloaded by them all.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know where I'm coming from.  Thanks again for your comment.

Nice article!  I love the explanations and the research behind everything.  I can, however, understand how some people would think it's a lot.  Perhaps footnotes and/or links?  Love it.  Thank you so much.
