Posada on the shelf, could be out for the year
Published 7/21/2008 by Ben K. at River Ave. Blues
... , Jorge Posada may be done for the year. According to numerous Internet reports, Johnny Damon has replaced the Yanks’ catcher on the active roster, and Tyler Kepner notes that Posada, whose damaged right shoulder is still bothering him, may opt for surgery sooner rather than later in order to be ready for Spring Training in 2009. While missing Posada’s bat looms large for the Yanks, he’s hitting just .214/.365/.262 in July and has seen his power suffer with this shoulder injury. The Yanks now will hope that Bobby Abreu can pick it back up as the bottom third of ...
More on Posada’s status
Published 7/21/2008 by Eric Stashin at Rotoprofessor
Tyler Kepner of The New York Times (click here for the article) has shed a little more light on the status of Jorge Posada. Apparently, Posada will have an MRI tomorrow in order to “assess the extent of the damage to a shoulder problem that will not go away”. Posada has been playing the entire season with an injury to his labrum. If Posada undergoes surgery, he will be out for the rest of the season, as the recovery will be around 6 months. That would at least put him in line to be healthy for the start of 2009. We’ll continue to follow this story, though I’m not sure what ...

A year punctuated by injuries just got a little worse. Jorge Posada will presumably head back to the DL tonight when Johnny Damon comes off the DL. Posada will have an MRI and may have season-ending surgery on his shoulder. He's finally admitted that he can't make the throw to second, and surgery now may mean he's available for the beginning of the '09 season. ...

... According to the New York Times, Yankees’ catcher Jorge Posada has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to ongoing issue with his shoulder. He is set to be examined this week, and the Posada could be slated to have season-ending shoulder surgery. If he gets the surgery done now, he could be ready to go at the start of next season. If they wait any longer to see if it gets better, and then he needs surgery anyways, Posada could be out for a significant portion of 2009 as well. ...

... serious surgery on the injured shoulder, which he uses to do things like throw baseballs. Rehab after surgery would be four to six months, leaving him out for the season. This kinda sucks for the Yanks, who have seen the 36-year-old backstop hit just .268 with three bombs and 22 RBIs over 51 games this season after signing a four-year, $52.4 million deal this winter. For fantasy players Posada was a big bust this year. Actually now that I think about it so was Victor Martinez. Tough year for catchers... unless you are Joe Mauer.
