Today the Backstop, Tomorrow the World
Published 4/27/2008 by Emma at Eephus Pitch
Watching the Mets-Braves game Saturday, I discovered, to my dawning horror, that there is now yet another catching Molina in the majors. Supposedly this Gustavo, called up from the Mets AAA team during Brian Schneider's absence ...

Bad news for Jorge Posada and another injury notch is added to the Yankees tally for 2008 as the starting backstop is likely headed to the disabled list with a tear in his right shoulder: The Yankees’ injury troubles took another discouraging turn Sunday when Jorge Posada was a late scratch from the lineup with a recurrence of the ...
Posada Likely Headed To DL
Published 4/27/2008 by Greg Cohen at Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog
More terrible injury news for the Yanks. From Tyler Kepner: The Yankees said there would be no announcement until after the game, but Posada, who has a tear in his subscapularis muscle, is expected to visit Dr. James Andrews and will most likely be placed on the disabled list. Posada has already shared his magnetic resonance imaging results with Andrews, and Posada has said that surgery would not be necessary. But the problem has not improved as Posada hoped, again raising the specter of an operation. This is terrible news for the Yankees as visits to Dr. Andrews are usually a sign that surgery may be necessary, which will ...
Times: Posada has muscle tear
Published 4/27/2008 by Andrew Fletcher at Scott Proctor's Arm - A New York Yankees Blog
According to Tyler Kepner of The New York Times, Jorge Posada has a muscle tear and is likely headed to the disabled list. Posada was a late scratch from this afternoon's lineup, and the Yankees said that they would not announce why until after the game. It appears that we have finally found out why. Posada had been out of the lineup for a good part of April due to a "dead" shoulder and Jose Molina has caught 39 more innings than Posada has this season. Chad Moeller was designated for assignment yesterday and can be claimed by another team. Kepner notes that the Yankees have no other catchers with ...
Breaking: Posada to the DL, Surgery Possible
Published 4/27/2008 by YF at YFSF
... Tyler Kepner reports in the NYT that Jorge Posada was scratched this afternoon due to "a tear in his subscapularis muscle," the same shoulder problem that has hampered him all season. A trip to the DL (a career first) and to Dr. James Andrews are in the offing. The Yanks have no backup to Jose Molina, having DFA'ed Chad Moeller. ...
POSADA SENT TO BIRMINGHAM
Published 4/27/2008 by Mike at New York Yankees Update
Jorge Posada is on his way to Birmingham, Alabama to visit renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews to have is right shoulder examined. The NY Times reports today that Dr. Andrews has already seen Posada's MRI results. Posada has been experiencing a "dead arm/shoulder" sensation since April 8th. If Posada ends up on the DL for an extended period the Yanks are in a bind for a back-up catcher. Chad Moeller was DFA on Friday, which now makes no sense. Why would they DFA Moeller knowing that Posada was not 100%? ...
Disaster

It sounds like the one guy the Yankees cannot afford to lose is headed to the DL. As Jimmy wisely said in the commments of another post, "that decision to DFA Moeller doesn't look so smart now". And that is what has me scratching my head in this story. How do you explain the fact that the Yankees knew Posada had a tear in his shoulder yet didn't send him to Dr. Andrews sooner and DFA'ed Moeller? It seems to me like the Yankees totally blew it here. Posada is way too valuable to take chances with, but the Yankees did exactly that. Now, what are they going to do? Molina should be able to catch every day, but ...
Chien-Ming Wang = God, Yanks Win 1-0
Published 4/27/2008 by J-Boogie at Baseball & The Boogie Down
When I was at the birthday party yesterday I had a conversation with a Red Sox fan about the two teams and the game in general. I had brought up the point that the 2 teams had pretty similar pitching staffs. Inexperienced youngsters (Hughes, Kennedy, Buchholz, Lester), aging vets (Wakefield, Mussina), great #2 starters in Dice-K and Pettittea, and perennial Cy Young award winners in Beckett and Chien-Ming Wang. Pretty fair assessment I'd say. He agreed for the most part but said that Wang was not an ace. Come on now. He's an ace if there ever was one. And with today's performance, I think we can officially ...
N.Y. Times: Posada Likely Headed for Disabled List (RR)

N.Y. Times: Posada Likely Headed for Disabled List (RR) Thanks to Michael Kay (passes out...THUD!) for this item… The Yankees’ injury troubles took another discouraging turn Sunday when Jorge Posada was a late scratch from the lineup with a recurrence of the shoulder problem that bothered him early this month. This time, the injury seems serious. The Yankees said there would be no announcement until after the game, but Posada, who has a tear in his subscapularis muscle, is expected to visit Dr. James Andrews and will most likely be placed on the disabled list. Posada has ...
Posada Out with Torn Rotator Cuff
Published 4/28/2008 by Fantasy Sports PT at The Disabled List Informer
When Jorge Posada was dealing with a "dead" right arm, I was saying how this could be a more serious situation than the Yankees were leading us to believe. I had posed the question, "what can cause your arm to feel dead?" Rotator cuff was the most likely scenario. That was on April 8th.
Two days later, I showed concern following a vague diagnosis of "strained shoulder" , which could mean just about anything. I mentioned that I would not be surprised if he returned to the DL by the early May. The whole situation just did not sound good to me.
April 14th: "I’d rather have healthy catchers with ...
Bronx Banter: A Gem and Some Gloomy News

... . Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect eighth, Mariano did the same in the ninth. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Now, for the bad news. As first reported by Tyler Kepner of the New York Times , Jorge Posada is headed to the Disabled List for the first time in his fourteen-year career. According to Pete Abe: The muscle tear in Posada's shoulder left him unable to throw today and he will be examined by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., later this week. "It's very disappointing," Posada said. "The biggest disappointment in my career." Posada seemed almost close to ...
Bronx Banter: (Tell Me Why?) I Don't Like Mondays
Published 4/28/2008 at Baseball Toaster
It is a cold, rainy spring day in New York. The skies are dark and the Yankees and their fans are going to continue feeling anxious until their is more definitive word on the extent of Jorge Posada's injury. If he needs surgery, he could be lost from 4-6 months. According to Tyler Kepner in the Times : Posada will return to New York with the Yankees after Monday's game, and he said he wanted to visit Dr. James Andrews, the orthopedic surgeon in Birmingham, Ala., who operated on his labrum in 2001. Andrews has read the M.R.I. results, and Posada has said that surgery will not be necessary. But the problem has not improved as Posada hoped, raising the specter of an ...
