This is why we watch. When Tim Duncan made a 7-foot hook shot to put the defending champions up by 20 (65-45) with just under 6 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, all looked lost: the game, the series, and the Lakers season. I felt sick to my stomach. There was no way, no way, that they could possibly squander such a commanding advantage, right? Cue Kobe Bean Bryant. [link]

Bryant's night was one Jordan would have to admire. It was as if he spotted the Spurs 20 points just to make the evening a sporting proposition. The onslaught began just after Duncan's jump hook. Bryant pulled up and hit a jumper. Then it was an assist to Pau Gasol. Next, a 3. And a pair of foul shots. He'd tally 11 points and four assists in the third quarter alone.
