That was certainly ugly. That was like Alex Ovechkin’s face plastered on top of John Daly’s body. Just ugly for the Avalanche tonight. What a way to go out, huh? So much for pride and going down with a fight and all that. [link]

Foppa Talk
Published 5/2/2008 by Paul at KK Hockey
... in person play in their prime, but I did with Foppa, and he was the best I ever saw. Shaking hands with him tonight, it definitely felt it was for the last time. For a second, I thought I might even choke up. Listen, I’m objective about things with the Avs, but after you’ve known and covered a guy most of the last 13 years, you’re human and to me he was just Peter, a guy I’ve spent a large portion of my life around in those years. more I guess Forsberg got his wish too, remember him saying he ...

Living with the aftershock

... The loss for the Avs marked their second playoff 0-fer since moving to Denver for the 1995-96 season. Their previous sweep came at the hands of the Ducks in the 2006 conference semis. They were outscored in that series 18-4. This time? Try 21-9. . . . - Jim Armstrong, ...

As the nightmare ends, Colorado's farewells begin

Avalanche Over, What Next?

... likely broken foot, Wojtek Wolski's 5 broken ribs, Marek Svatos' torn knee, Brett Clark's bitched shoulder and Theodore's bubonic plague and you have a worn out, beat up team. And though I was a bit pissed last night due to an 8-2 drubbing, after putting the injuries into perspective and what some of the players played through, I can honestly say I'm proud of the squad for giving it their best. It's just too bad their best wasn't enough. Related Links Postmortem Living with the aftershock So much for pride, Mr. Theodore

Wings-Avs Game 4 wrap-up
Published 5/2/2008 by George James Malik at Red Wings Snapshots - MLive.com
... , and the refereeing, which was equally bad on both sides of the ledger... May 2, Denver Post : The examples of Game 3 [calls against Forsberg] were just one last insult to a great player. Forsberg does nothing to Chris Osgood and gets a penalty. He gets his skates literally grabbed out from under him by Johan Franzen, and the refs swallow their whistles. This league doesn't deserve guys like Forsberg anymore anyway. For years, he was cheap-shotted and hooked and held to no end, and the Canadian good old boys always let it go. So, get out while you can Peter. This goon league ...

Don Cherry in Reverse?
Published 5/2/2008 at Kuklas Korner
Reading the remainder of an Adrian Dater blog post (which KK highlighted this morning) I came across this odd analysis from the Denver Post reporter: I think it’s time [Peter Forsberg retires], though. Not just for his body, but to get away from a league that never treats its stars very well, that allows too many no-talent bums make runs at them and the Canadian, good-old-boy referee system lets it all go without penalty. [...] This league doesn’t deserve guys like Forsberg anymore anyway. ...
