They met last June in an exciting Stanley Cup Finals (OK, exciting after the first two games). The drama continued when Marian Hossa felt the Detroit Red Wings had a better chance at repeating this season as champions, so he took less money from Ken Holland and spurned Pittsburgh for ...

Wings-Pens discussion and Samuelssen's take on Osgood
Snapshots —
Two points of note from a slate of pundits: First and foremost, Yahoo Sports' Greg "Puck Daddy" Wyshynski posted a roundtable discussion in which various Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins bloggers weigh in on the impending grudge match between Detroit and Pittsburgh this Sunday (12:30 PM, NBC/WXYT, and of course, I'm offended that I didn't get an invite, wink wink); And the Detroit Free Press's Jamie Samuelssen weighed in regarding the so-called controversy surrounding coach Mike Babcock's criticism of goaltender Chris Osgood. As far as Samuelssen's concerned, criticism comes ...

... set aside and research prevailed. 4. Finally, it was 7-6 Pittsburgh in overtime last time around. Will this game be even close as exciting as the last time? And your prediction, of course. A2Y (Wings): Let’s see. Osgood gives up three in the first. Pulled. Conklin shuts out the Pens the rest of the way. Hossa scores four. Wings clamp down on Penguins, win 3-0
The Confluence —
Boy did that look familiar.
Earlier this week, Puck Daddy colleague Sean Leahy asked me and some other Pens and Wings bloggers for some input on today’s game. His first question asked the biggest change in our respective team’s seasons. I succinctly answered that both the goaltending and defense had regressed. His final question asked for a score. Always striving for objectivity, rather than blatant homerism, I said to refer to the first question, and then predicted because of that, 5-2 Wings. Of course, I was blasted by true homers, claiming that other Pens bloggers and I who predicted a Wings win weren’t “true fans”. ...

Some thoughts on the Penguins
cyclelikesedins.blogspot.com 2/9/2009 — Maybe it's just not meant to be. The Penguins spent the first few months of the season without two of their top four D, minus key veteran support players and with a handful of mediocre new players to try to fill the gaps. Perhaps instead of deriding the team for wasting the work of the top two ...
