MLB: Prior experiencing shoulder discomfort
Published 5/11/2008 at BBTF's Baseball Primer Newsblog
MLB: Prior experiencing shoulder discomfort What doofs...MLB.com misspelled Pavano. Pitcher Mark Prior is returning to San Diego on Sunday, though it won’t be to pitch for the Padres. Prior experienced discomfort in his surgically repaired right shoulder during a throwing session on Saturday. He will be examined by team doctors on Sunday. “I think you can call it a setback,” San Diego manager Bud Black said, “but we’ll know more [Sunday].”

Running Low on Options, Mark Prior’s Doctors Recommend Emergency Episiotomy

(San Diego, CA) - The injury bug has struck former Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior, and this time, it may just end his career. Prior began feeling shoulder discomfort earlier in the week, but after an examination by doctors on Sunday, everyone knew it was serious. HIPAA laws prevent any of Prior’s doctors from going into detail about his injury, but San Diego Padres’ Chairman John Moores shared with reporters what he understood Prior’s injury to entail. “As you know, we were excited to sign Mark in the offseason in the hopes that he could rehab and join our rotation. But it’s looking like that is never going to ...

ZONER’S MONDAY MORSELS

Soooooo…Paxson is going to interview Avery Johnson for the Bulls gig. You know, take your time and stuff, Pax. Like with Mike D. To the morsels… Speaking of Mike D, I dare link to the hated one–Jay Mariotti–for a great take on the whole Bulls situation. I’m not saying I agree with it all, but it’s worth reading. “Since when did we become Sacramento? And why are the Bulls so sluggish and wishy-washy about every big decision that comes their way? Aren’t we all tiring of Kevin Garnett going to Boston, Kobe Bryant staying in L.A., Gasol going to L.A., D’Antoni going to New York — and Reinsdorf and general manager John Paxson just ...

Padres Visit Can Only Mean One Thing

That's right: Mark Prior is "experiencing shoulder discomfort." And just in time to finally put to rest those pie-in-the-sky June 1 expectations (though, to be fair, those were long gone anyway): "I think you can call it a setback," San Diego manager Bud Black said, "but we'll know more [Sunday]." For a full review of Mark Prior's injuries - and to see the natural life cycle of a Prior injury - please visit our posts on his RotoTimes injury notes for 2005, 2006 and 2007. Oh, and as a reminder, the oracle Phil Rogers lectured us all in February that it was a mistake to let Prior go. Really, Phil? Still think so?

AP Photo NOT GROUNDED FOR LONG: They don't go down easy, these Red Sox. Jacoby Ellsbury looked as if his night might be finished when he was hit in the knee by a pitch in the third inning (above), but he stayed in the game, scored a run by sprinting home on a sacrifice fly, and later made a running catch in right-center field. He was sort of a symbol of his team, which found itself on the short end of 5-0, 7-1 and 9-6 scores at various points during the evening and still came this close to pulling out an improbable win over the Twins. There was no Mother's Day Miracle this time, however, as pinch-hitter Manny Ramirez grounded out with the tying run in ...

Tueday Night Game Thread: Pads at Cubs 7:05 CT/8:05 ET

Oh bench-clearing brawl, what I wouldn't give to see you again In case you missed it, both Daryle Ward AND his butt are on fire, Soriano has decided to play baseball again, Ryan Dempster is denying us a reason to make fun of him, Kerry is a total badass, and we're back in first place. Tonight the Cubs try to take over sole possession of first, as we play a team that is not only last in batting average, on-base percentage, and runs scored, but has at least ONE Mark Prior (who is now experiencing shoulder "discomfort", and one Glendon Rusch. Good luck with all THAT. Heading to the hill for the Pads is Randy Wolf, who has been kinda "meh" ...

Revenge of the Voodoo dolls

Although life is grand after a 7-0 homestand that saw sweeps over the severely injured Dodgers (Furcal, AJones, Garciaparra, LaRoche and 3/44) and the severely injured Rockies (Holiday, Hawpe, Tulowitzki and Barmes), I sense some strange karma that had cause some weird happenings to be in the news. To quote Ricardo Montalban, "Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold." Former Cub, Shawn Estes got his only win so far this season as well as the Padres only win against the Cubs and was slated to open the upcoming series in San Diego vs the Cubs monday night until he fell going from the clubhouse to the dugout friday in San Francisco breaking the thumb ...
