Nets president Rod Thorn and general manager Kiki Vandeweghe talked of keeping the nucleus together after finishing 34-48 this past season, but that's not what they want. That's not their plan. They would like to do something big. Remember Thorn's specialty has been pulling off blockbusters and Vandeweghe rebuilt the Nuggets when he was their GM. Thinking big, the Nets have had exploratory ... [link]

Trade Carmelo?
Published 5/15/2008 at Hoffman's Blog
The New Jersey Nets have had exploratory trade talks with the Denver Nuggets about Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby. This comes a week after the Denver Post reported that no one on Denver’s roster is “untouchable.” With $81,696,590 on the books for next season, the Nuggets have the league’s 3rd highest payroll. Only $7 million less than the dastardly New York Knicks. That means owner Stan Kroenke will pay $44 million plus luxury taxes for a team that won 50 games but was dispatched in four games by the Los Angeles Lakers. ...

Moving Howard Would Equal 'Rebuilding' Time

... , that Dirk himself might want Howard moved. Now, let's pause, and look over to another Western team, the Denver Nuggets. Supposedly, they've discussed moving All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony , one of the league's more marketable stars. From a Denver team that, for all the talent in the world, has never found an identity. That's when you frantically start shopping All-Stars. Not when that identity has just been lost for a year. Look, Dirk, Dallas, local reporters, and Rick Carlisle's super-ego: Things could be much worse. You bring in a new coach to press reset, take what's ...

There's a hodge-podge all across the various nations, and that can be problematic. There's an effort afoot to address that. Josh Smith, Andrew Bynum, Carmelo Anthony, Rashard Lewis ... some names the Nets, per John Hollinger, ought to consider going after. And, the idea that the Nets need to get trading. Remember healthy Dwyane Wade? ...
