With the Mavericks due to face his former team Saturday in Dallas, Jason Kidd cleared the air about his departure from the New Jersey Nets."I didn't quit on the team,'' Kidd tells the New York Daily News."The ride was over. At the end of the day, I gave everything that I could give to the Nets. There were no more rabbits that I could pull out of the hat." Before coming to Dallas in an eight-player trade last month, Kidd helped get the Nets into the NBA Finals twice."That is as far as they could go," Kidd said. "I took them as high as I could."

By now, everyone has accepted and dealt with the notion that Kidd forced his way out of Jersey. It was obvious to anyone who followed the team: his agent was said to be demanding a trade (which Jason denied, naturally); Kidd sat out a game with a “migraine”; and when the point guard came out and said the Nets were terrible and had no hope, the writing was on the wall.
