Few things in Oakland are certain, but two things this season virtually are. Cornerback Nnamdi Asamghoua will go to the Pro Bowl this season. And for the second straight year, the Raiders will slap their franchise tag on Asamghoua. It is the only way they can assure keeping him.

Just when it seems that things can't get
any worse in Oakland, the Raiders seem to find
an innovative way to further their decline. The front office is in shambles. The players are miserable. The team is getting blasted nearly every game. The question becomes how low can the Raiders go?

... Nnamdi Asomugha Should Not Be Thrown On From Adam Schefter : The franchise tag for Asomugha will cost the Raiders $11.7 million, a small price to pay for the player that many believe is the best cornerback in the game. Opposing teams no longer even look to throw to Asamghoua’s side; one knowledgeable league source who tracks these sorts of things estimated that only 10 passes have been thrown Asomugha’s way all season. Asomugha's Contract Expires After Season, but Raiders Likely to Franchise Him ... Again
FanHouse —
... decision, the Pro Bowl player will likely be in Oakland beyond 2008 even though he's currently working off a one-year deal. Asomugha was franchised last offseason so he's only under contract until March, at which time he can sell his services to the highest bidder. In theory, anyway. Unfortunately, for as incompetent/senile/mental as Al Davis appears, he's even able to piece together Asomugha's importance to a unit I would loosely describe as a "defense." Via NFL Network's Adam Schefter: ...Asomugha will go to the Pro Bowl this season. And for ...
Grading the Rams free agent possibilities
Turf Show Times —
... Getting a cornerback like the Raiders Nnamdi Asomugha would go a long way to erasing the ugly memories of the Rams secondary from the early going this season. Unfortunately, he's not going anywhere. The Raiders dumped CB DeAngelo Hall to free up money in order to ink Asomugha to a superstar contract. He hasn't accepted any offers yet, but conventional wisdom says the Raiders will hit him with the franchise tag for 2009. ...
