Fred9964 I think the clearest one is that A-Rod is clearly not a clutch hitter. He may put up incredible numbers, play great defense, and put up a [usually] professional attitude, but in reality, too many of those numbers come in games that aren't close and at times that don't matter.

I’ve selected tOPS+ for hitting with RISP/ 2 outs, Late and Close, Tie Game and Within 1 Run as recorded on baseball-reference.com and combined them with post-season performance to calculate an overall clutch rating. I let RISP/ 2 outs represent 40 percent of the rating, and I weighed Late and Close, Tie Game and Within 1 Run cumulatively as another 40 percent (cumulatively because the same plate appearance often qualifies under all three categories). So who be the best clutch hitter of our time? Many big rbi men are clearly big clutch hitters, but batting 3rd or 4th in a lineup presents you with a lot more opportunities to knock someone in.
Although Ortiz bats third, with Manny to protect him and a very good lineup around him, I think Ortiz is the best clutch hitter of his time. If he wasn't a DH, he would have won the MVP at least twice.
