Ravens Make a Desperate Move
The Loss Column -- Baltimore's Independent Sports Talk Alternative -- a Baltimore Sports Blog and Community — With their quarterback corps down to one guy who’s not ready (Joe Flacco) and another who never will be (Casey Bramlet), the Ravens have signed Joey Harrington to a deal. Here’s a link to the report. Did I miss the press release announcing that Jim Duquette was replacing Ozzie Newsome?

HARRINGTON HEADS TO BALTIMORE
ProFootballTalk.com — After meeting with Chris Simms earlier in the day, the Ravens opted instead to sign Joey Harrington. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Harrington won a gong show between him, Simms, and veteran Todd Bouman. Harrington, the third overall pick in the 2002 draft, has previously played for the Lions, Dolphins, and Falcons.  Atlanta cut him over the weekend. Harrington likely will serve as the backup to rookie Joe Flacco, given the injured shoulder of Kyle Boller and ongoing case of tonsilitis of Troy Smith.  Casey Bramlet is on the team’s practice squad. If Harrington is still ...

Bengals Will Face Joe Flacco in Opener
Stripe Hype | A Cincinnati Bengals Blog — The Baltimore Ravens will open the season against Cincinnati with Joe Flacco as the starting QB. This is both good and bad news for the Cincinnati club. Good news since they face a raw rook in their first outing, bad news since the team specializes in making nobody QBs look like Joe Montana. But as a Bengals fan, I’ll take what I can get. In related Baltimore news, they have also signed Joey Harrington. My sympathies to Ravens fans.

Ravens Overcome Mediocrity by Sheer Volume, Sign Joey Harrington, Start Flacco
FanHouse — ... Harrington has been a whipping boy and failure in both Detroit and Atlanta, the two biggest FAILs in professional football (or at least "arguably"). Now he joins the corps of crummy QBs that the Baltimore Ravens host. ...

Joe Flacco Wins...Fatality
Deuce of Davenport | Sports News, Commentary, Humor, Videos — ... The Ravens attempted to address the back up situation by trying to sign the worst QB in NFL history. Joey Touchdown could be the next Ravens QB to fail miserably. He beat out Chris Simms and Todd Bouman but is still exploring his options. Of course Daunte Culpepper is nowhere to be found. Why try someone who might work? It's a great time to be a Ravens fan. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to find those new live Ravens mascots and have them poke my eyes out so I don't have to watch this season. ...

Morning take: Browns AFC North champs?
ESPN.com - NFL Nation Blog — ... As expected, rookie quarterback Joe Flacco was officially named the starter Monday by Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh. ...

NFL Injury Report: Peyton Manning, Derek Anderson and Tom Brady Will All Start
FanIQ Blog — ... Joe Flacco will start for Baltimore. This isn't really injury news, not for Flacco at least, but rookie gets the start thanks to Troy Smith battling a viral infection and Kyle Boller battling sucking. Not that I need to tell you this, but don't start Flacco. Not even against the Bengals. ...

Ravens Are Interested in Chris Simms, Are Dark Horse Candidates to Win the DivisionFanHouse
At least the Ravens didn't wait until the last minute. Kyle Boller 's bum shoulder could put his season in jeopardy, and Troy Smith 's Level 5 tummyache forced him to miss the final two preseason games. Which meant that rookie first-round pick Joe Flacco was the depth chart. Baltimore signed backup Casey Bramlet long enough to cut him, but they're still in the market for a longer-term ...
