FLACCO GETS FIRST START
ProFootballTalk.com —
Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco got his first NFL start on Saturday night, but that wasn’t the way it was planned. Troy Smith was supposed to get the nod, but a viral illness knocked him out . Flacco played the entire game, throwing 37 passes and completing 18 of them in a 24-10 loss to the Rams. It has been believed that Smith will be the starter to begin the 2008 season. It remains to be seen whether Flacco did enough on Saturday night to persuade coach John Harbaugh to give the rookie the nod from Week One.
