 Re-sign Mike Lowell! Links3
An Open Letter to the Red Sox, 11/1/07 Dear Red Sox Front Office, First and foremost, congratulations on the World Series victory. While we bask in the glow of another championship, we must also begin looking ahead to the 2008 season. And, no doubt, you guys have some tough decisions and much work ahead of you. One of the big decisions is who will play third base for the Sox in 2008. Red Sox ... [link]

A simple message: Lowell Yes/A-Rod No

... (and counting), it's not the only Lowell lobby out there: A Sox fan has now launched the Web site Lowell Yes/A-Rod No . The message is simple: It's no wonder teams get better when A-Rod leaves. Really. In 2000, A-Rod's last season in Seattle, the Mariners finished a solid 91-71. Then, in 2001, their first season without ARod, they had their massive 116-46 season. Same with the Texas Rangers. In 2003, A-Rod's last season in Texas, the Rangers finished with a lackluster 71-91 record; then, in 2004, free of A-Rod, they turn it around and finish 89-73. ... attention they deserve. And, of course, when they're both playing out of their minds, it becomes even more difficult. (Not that I would advise any parents out there to ignore whatever child isn't performing well but hell, what do I know? I'm not a real parent.) But now, now that the Red Sox have so richly rewarded a season of faith and, let's be honest, more than occasional exasperation, I can turn my attention fully to Child #2, the Patriots (with an eye still tuned to the saga of re-signing our once-and-future third basemen, Theo and don't you even think ...

Hot Stove Update

... a hardworker, and always struck me as a stand-up guy. Mike Lowell still has yet to file for free agency- which shouldn't make anyone relax about his status, but definitely is a positive sign that he's really working through options with the Sox first before going on to test the broader market. Some Lowell fans have built on the grassroots campaign that started with the "Keep Mike Lowell" and "Don't Sign A-Rod" chants I heard while I was at the celebrations in Denver, and started the Lowell Yes / A-Rod No website. All like-minded Sox fans can head over there and show support. ...

Schilling Files for Free Agency

For the first time in Schillings career he has gone to free agency. Officially it happened Tuesday October 30th. Curt Schilling is 40 years old. And in baseball today it hardly seems old at all. He still has a competive edge and even when he only throws a 83 mph fastball he still has the smarts and guile to figure hitters out and eat innings. The Red Sox remain his first choice but there is a ...

Cabrera trade is a possibility reports Peter Gammons

Basically with the state of the Florida Marlins they are willing to hear offers for Miguel Cabrera. Last year there was clammoring over the hot stove above Cabrera being available. Although most reports from Florida denied they had any interest to move him. With two years left until free agency, the Marlins have put the word out they are listening, but it’s going to take a lot to get ...
