As we all focus on the 2007 draft with the top two prospects being Kevin Durant and Greg Oden, please keep in mind that their NBA success and performance are not completely under their control. In fact the teams that draft them and the players they play with will also be a determining factor of which player deserved to be chosen number one. [link]

James Jones / Rudy Fernandez Deal Complete
Published 7/11/2007 by Moderator at BLAZERSBLOG
Realgm.com is reporting that the James Jones & Rudy Fernandez deal is complete. All that s said is that Phoenix has traded Jones and the draft rights to Fernandez to Portland for cash considerations . I believe this deal also includes the trade exception that Portland received in the Knicks deal. http://www.realgm.com And for those of you still confused as to how everything went down, here is the chain of events. 1. Portland sends Randolph, Dickau, and Fred Jones to NY for Francis, Frye and a trade exception. 2. Portland uses the trade exception to take James Jones off of Phoenix's hands, but also purchases the #24 pick for their troubles. So essentially, we've traded Zbo, Fred Jones, and Dickau for Frye, James Jones, and a bunch of cap space in two years. I still think we could have done more with Zbo, but it's not a terrible place to have ended up. I also still believe there will be another deal this offseason to further address the small forwar ...

BP: More Per-Minute Analysis
Published 11/8/2007 by Mike K. (KnickerBlogger) at KnickerBlogger.Net
www.basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=36 One of the arguments statistical analysts have made in favor of per-minute numbers is the ability to identify players stuck on the bench as breakout candidates when they get more minutes. A quintessential example is Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd, who backed up Ray Allen early in his career before becoming an All-Star the year after Allen was dealt to Seattle. Andrei Kirilenko and Zach Randolph are other examples of players touted by analysts well before they became mainstream stars. How well does good per-minute performance portend future success? To ...

Now this wasn’t due to officiating, as bad as it was through much of the first half–this was due to a reluctance to pound the ball inside. Dallas was again outscored in the paint by over 15 points, a trend that we’ve seen frequently during this season. Larry Hughes managed to be decent for the Cavs going inside (one of the few times this season, as RealGM claims he’s on the block), and Zydrunas Ilgauskus outplayed Erick Dampier, who had ...
