Stop me if you've heard this one before.  The Jazz have one poor quarter.  Boozer does jack on either end.  The Jazz get down double digits.  The backups lead a comeback in the final quarter, only to fall short. Second verse, same as the first. Utah is known for their strict liquor laws. It's all watered down. But maybe the legislators need to call a special session ... [link]

The backups lead a comeback in the final quarter, only to fall short. Second verse, same as the first. ... One of our team captains [Boozer] continued his two-month long crapfest. He's the reason we got in the hole early. He picked up to amazingly stupid fouls in the first and was in trouble the whole game. ... Here's a tip. If your guy goes by you or is in front of you for a rebound, get your forearm out ...

Lakers/Jazz and Other Thoughts

First things first, I still expect the Lakers will meet the Jazz in the next round, but Friday night will be an interesting contest. What little I saw of the Jazz/Rockets game (my DVR skills are apparently worse than Doc Rivers coaching skills) ...

The Great Salt Lake Show: Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers Playoff Preview

Expect the Jazz to play extremely physical with the finesse Lakers and try to wear Kobe and friends down while Los Angeles presses their transition game and lets Bryant close out games as only he can. It will be a more even matchup than most anticipate and it’s going to be a hell of a show.

Postcards from L.A., Volume 5: Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals

Sunday was a domestic business day for me – do laundry, pay bills, retrieve groceries, run errands – not the most exciting or enjoyable time, but necessary to my continued survival. The Lakers 109-98 victory over the Utah Jazz was a similar endeavor as The Purple and Gold handled their respective chores and got the Game 1 win.

38 Special: Lakers Ride Kobe Bryant's Scoring Outburst to a 109-98 Win Over Utah

Kobe Bryant's 38 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the Lakers' 109-98 game one win over the Jazz were actually only slightly above his playoff averages in those departments, an indication of just how high of a standard he has set for himself.

Lakers/Jazz Thoughts

Some assorted thoughts from Game One, we’ll break down the details in the coming days: • I enjoyed that game because I enjoy watching two teams that know how to pass. That was smart hoops. • I also said this series was about defense — ...

Ace in the hole

The Lakers were able to overcome a week’s absence from playing and take game one from the Jazz but it was certainly not an easy win. Had the Lakers not benefited from the presence of Kobe Bryant they might not have that victory put away.  ...

Game 2 thoughts, mine and otherwise

Clearly I'm not going out on a limb when I say tonight's Game 2 is absolutely massive for Utah. Good as they are at home should they fall behind 2-0 to the Lakers, the idea that they could rip off four of the next five seems a little far-fetched. ...

Really, it's not supposed to look this easy

The Lakers entered Wednesday night's Game 2 against Utah having never lost on a night where Kobe Bryant was presented with an MVP trophy. For that matter, the Lakers had yet to suffer a blemish during their playoff run, going a perfect 5-0. Both ...

Lakers Jazz game three preview

The Lakers head to Utah with a 2-0 lead in their best of seven series. So far the Lakers are undefeated in the play-offs, and are playing with that swagger that borders on over confidence. Other then a decided rebounding edge, Utah didn’t play their best ball in LA and are looking to get it back at home. Home is where they are 37-4, so the Lakers have their work cut out for them.

Big Performance by Boozer Powers Jazz to Victory

Carlos Boozer scored nine straight points for Utah in less than three minutes in the fourth quarter to help the Jazz hold off a late Lakers' rally in game three of their second round series. He finished with 27 points and tied a playoff career-high with 20 rebounds in Utah's 104-99 win.

Behind the box score, where a Jazz win is as easy as 1, 2 ... and 8

Utah 104, Los Angeles Lakers 99 This all seemed so typical, so obvious. At just about every point within this Game 3, it felt as if we'd seen this sort of Game 3 probably 75 times before. Two great teams -- with one finally playing at home, ...

Behind the box score: where KB has earned everything he's gotten

Los Angeles Lakers 120, Utah 110 Utah outscored the Lakers by five over the final three quarters of this game, and I'll probably look like a fool once the Jazz take both games in Utah (though playing at home on Sunday might feel odd), but ...

Recap - Houston Rockets @ Utah Jazz - Game 6 - Round 1 - 2008 playoffs -
It’s Deron.  Mr. Williams if you’re nasty. There are a lot of great players in the NBA.  A lot of players can put the ball in the basket and got make flashy passes.  But the playoffs seem to separate the elite players from the great.  They separate themselves by doing seemingly whatever it takes to [...]
