Red Sox After Sheets?
Published 12/3/2007 by Eli at MLB Rumors
... According to the Providence Journal, the Red Sox are in discussions with the Brewers about Ben Sheets. Maybe this means the Red Sox will throw in either Lester or Buchholz, along with Ellsbury and a minor leaguer. Maybe this means the Twins are leaning towards the Yankees offer and will go to a plan B. I think Sheets would be a great pickup. You cannot rely on Tim Wakefield despite him putting up 17 wins, and Curt Schilling only put up 9 wins, so adding another starter would definitely be good. Sheets is only 29, and has had double-digit wins in six of the past seven seasons. ...

The Providence Journal is reporting this morning that in addition to demanding a trade prior to the season, Johan Santana has told the Twins he will only accept a deal to the Yankees or Red Sox. MLB Rumors: Johan Santan To Either the Red Sox Or Yankees. Andy Pettitte Returns
Published 12/3/2007 at FakeTeams
... Sean McAdam reports the feeling is the Boston Red Sox are only trying to run-up the price the Yankees have to pay for Johan Santana while also mentioning the team has been in contact with the Milwaukee Brewers for ace Ben Sheets.  Those two positions seem inconsistent.  Why bluff for one ace while trying to land another, who will likely cost close to the same price as the first? ...

• It's a game of chicken and it appears that both the Yankees and Red Sawx are blinking. Previously, the Red Sox had declared both Ellsbury and pitching prospect Clay Buchholz off-limits in trade talks.
