Hossa to the Wings for 1 year
IllegalCurve.com —
From TSN: Sources tell TSN that free agent Marian Hossa has signed a one-year, $7.4 million deal with the defending Stanley Cup champions the Detroit Red Wings. Read the entire story here. Just give them the Cup now? I mean, this is a terrific signing. The Wings get a dominant Hossa for only 1 year, so they don't box themselves in when they need to re-sign Henrik Zetterberg next off-season. Wow. Kenny Holland is a mastermind.

Hossa Signs 1-Year Deal with Red Wings
Hockey Beat —
Wow! Talk about an interesting trade (for many reasons). Marian Hossa, who battled for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs has signed with the team that defeated the Pens in the finals - the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings have extended a 1-year contract to the star which is reportedly worth $7.4 million!
I’m not even sure Hossa is a good fit for the Wings but I guess we will be finding out soon enough! Besides, he’d have to be crazy to pass up that kind of money to play with the Stanley Cup champions.

We hardly knew ye: Avery goes to Dallas
New York Rangers Fan Blog —
... Avery back. Unless, of course, they know something about his health that we don't know. But whatever the reason was that the Blueshirts didn't pursue Avery, they still have to contend with gaping holes at the wing positions. As far as we can tell, unless they're counting on Artem Anisimov to come up and help, the team is short four wingers right now. So, it looks like the Rangers are about to get desperate for Mats Sundin -- though his traditional position is at center. Still, with Marian Hossa now also off the board -- and only taking a surprising one-year deal, worth $7.4 ...

For me, its a mildly humid day in Boston; where, thanks to the NYSE's early close, I'll be finishing work around 3 and later tonight I'll be jetsetting to Pennsylvania for the weekend (ok, ok, I'm taking the bus, its cheaper) What that means is I can't guarantee your Daily Linkin' Logs over the next three days, but I'll certainly try. Alright then, off to the links: The folks at one of my favorite blogs The700level.com are all the rage about Brett Myers latest start for the Iron Pigs of Lehigh Valley (how ironic Brett). Among the interesting chunks; Brett gives up 3 over 5 IP, provides a less than stellar ...

92 million dollars? No, 7.45… take it or leave it. I’ll take it!
THE BOOK--Playing The Percentages In Baseball —
Marian Hossa is one of the best players in the NHL, a free agent, had a great post-season, went to the finals, and he seemed to have been offered some Ovechkin-like contract, some $92MM long-term deal. Instead he opted for a one-year $7.45MM deal:
“I asked what they were looking for,” Holland told Landsberg. “It was north of 7.5 (million). I told them I was uncomfortable (having Hossa make more than Lidstrom). “In the end, Marian Hossa told me to not bother calling Nik, one year at 7.45 - it was a done deal.”
Even his agent was surprised. “I have never been ...

Marian Hossa
THE BOOK--Playing The Percentages In Baseball —
Last year, Marian Hossa turned down a reported a 12-yr 92MM deal to sign a one year deal with the Redwings at 7.45 MM:
“I have never been involved in a deal and seen a player get so excited to take $85 million less than he was offered elsewhere,” Winter told The Canadian Press. “It’s almost incomprehensible, even to an agent. But Marian is a special player.”
He went from the Cup-losing Penguins in 2008 to play with the Cup-losing Redwings in 2009. (The Redwings won in 2008 and the Penguins won in 2009. Talk about bad luck.)
Anyway, this year he signs with ...
