There’s a small weather delay for the first round of The Masters. Tee times at Augusta National will start today at 9am instead of 8am ET.Augusta: A Tradition Like No Other
Posted 4/10/2008 on The Sports Hernia Blog
(AUGUSTA, GA) -- Yes, Augusta National. Truly a tradition like no other. But it's more than just the green jacket, the magnolia flowers, the blatant homo-eroticism and Jim Nantz whispering into your television as if he was ordering a hooker......Boo Weekley Unimpressed with Augusta National, Would Rather Be Fishing
Posted 4/10/2008 on FanIQ Blog
"As far as I can see, it's just another golf course." If you follow golf with any consistency, it shouldn't surprised you that Boo Weekley was unimpressed with Augusta National, home to the Masters. I get the impression the only things that get Boo's blood moving are 10-pound bass, 12-point Buck, and other "racks" of similar abundance. (Photo: The Armchair Golfer) A moment before “lift off.” Tiger Woods collects a tee and readies himself to launch his 3 metal on the par-4 10th hole at Augusta National during Monday’s practice round. To his right, Mark O’Meara retrieves his driver as Tiger’s caddie Steve Williams, clad in traditional white Masters coveralls, looks on. Across the way, Tiger watchers incessantly snap ...Augusta GreenJackets Rally to Beat West Virginia Power 4-3 - South Atlantic League

There’s a golf tournament of note that’s underway in Georgia; one you may have heard of. Yes, I’m talking about The Masters. The hunt for the Green Jacket is already underway, although, they experienced a 40-minute fog delay; moving the start times of the rest of the field back. Currently, there are about 20 golfers on the course with Heath Slocum sitting atop the leader ...Fog Delay? Come to Denver, Wimps

I took this photo when I woke up this morning outside my apartment window in Denver. Go ahead, soak it in your jackass losers that live in Miami and LA. Officially, and just for today, I hate you. Anyway, as you can see, it's pretty tough for me to comprehend the "fog delay" that delayed the Masters by 40 minutes this morning. So far Mark O'Meara, Heath Slocum, Ian Poulter , Peter Lonard, ...I Don’t Care for the Masters

How far have we really come? Can you name one other Black player on the PGA Tour? I’m not trying to rain on the parade or spoil the party here. One extremely interested wrinkle in how Augusta National plays each year is this - Tiger Woods has never won on a "hard" Augusta year. Actually, Tiger has never won at Augusta when the winning score is just single digits under par. His victories looked like this : 18-under, 16-under, 12-under, and 12-under. Actually, in the Tiger ear era, only one golfer has shot double-digits under par ...50 Years Ago at the Masters: Fred Hawkins’ Near Win

What’s that saying? Something about no one remembers who finishes in second? Fifty years ago, in 1958, Arnold Palmer won his first Green Jacket. Palmer’s play and charisma combined with television forever changed professional golf. Arnie went on to three more Masters titles in 1960, 1962 and 1964. There’s a plaque honoring Palmer on the second nine at Augusta National. Last fall I talked to ...Updating the Augusta National Weather Watch

I have never understood the art of weather predictions. Like a good girl friend of mine said, most weather people (DTCC - always politically correct) are just journalist trying to get their face on the local TV. Point taken. Anyway, as was reported yesterday, Augusta, Georgia was expected to get some rain both Friday and Saturday, but Weather.com has revoked that statement, saying only ...Martha Burk and the Masters: Five years later, the sexism is more obvious than ever
Posted 4/9/2008 on William K. Wolfrum
The 2008 Masters will be the five-year anniversary of Martha Burk’s protest at Augusta National. And while the protest itself was small (two dozen or so people with twice as many police officers as protestors) it was effective. Because a light was shone on Augusta National and the Masters that cannot be extinguished. And that light has made the truth explicitly clear: Augusta ...Forget desperate Carrie Underwood-like hanging on celebrities & overhyped Augusta restaurants at Masters, I'd rather eat at Mary Mahoney's on Gulf Coast

TravelGolf.com National Editor Tim McDonald wrote a nice story on what to do in Augusta Masters week . He only included a brief mention of the “fine dining” you could enjoy though and that’s probably a good thing. As you can see from the below photos, it was overcast at Augusta National on my Monday at the Masters. It was also quite cool until the sun broke through the thick cloud cover in the early afternoon. A lot of people don't know this, but in 1997 at the Masters, Tiger Woods played really well. Tiger started the tournament shooting 40 on the front nine, but followed that up with a tidy little six-under 30 on the back, and pretty much ripped Augusta apart after that. April 4, 2008 Masters broadcasts are ripe (perhaps overly so) with references to the names of various geographical features at Augusta National.
