 Reds Interested In Piazza? Links2
This morning, Mark Healey of Gotham Baseball wrote that Reds manager Dusty Baker expected his team to sign free agent catcher Mike Piazza .  Reds beat writer John Fay checked in on the rumor, and it he didn't get a denial.  Whether or not Piazza is the target, the Reds are looking for catching help and/or a right-handed bench bat. Piazza, 39, hit .275/.313/.414 in 83 games last ... [link]

... game. Nats C Paul Lo Duca missed last night's game after being hit in the hand with a pitch Sunday. Kevin Millwood had to leave his most recent start with a bruised shin. Braves P Peter Moylan is on the DL with an elbow strain severe enough to send him to Dr. James Andrews. Alfonso Soriano strained his calf hopping to catch a fly ball last night, and is day-to-day. Who knows if he can consistently catch anymore, but rumor has it the Reds are interested in signing Mike Piazza. Maybe Dontrelle Willis' hyperextended knee ...

Piazza to Reds?
The Reds are reportedly showing interest in free agent catcher Mike Piazza. Piazza would give them the catcher they need with solid power from the right side. Although some within the Reds organization were surprised by the report, Dusty Baker reportedly told friends that, "I'm confident Piazza will sign with the Reds. Tommy Lasorda wants him to play for me." Piazza can still hit, but he is ...
Tough decisions ahead, Piazza to (not) slug for Reds
If you believe all that you hear from Reds’ “insiders”, Cincinnati has six guys soon to be with the team. Those soon big squad-ers are Matt Belisle, Homer Bailey, Bill Bray, Jay Bruce, David Ross and Alex Gonzalez. My question is, who do you move to make room for them? Obviously Todd Coffey is definitely sucking, but other than that, I don’t see where there is room ...
Whew, No Yankee Pinstripes for Mike
Yesterday, I blogged here about a rumor that Mike Piazza might one day soon be wearing Yankee pinstripes. But today Mark Healey of Gotham Baseball Magazine updated his story with some good news for Mets fans. He points to Peter Abraham of LoHud Yankee Blog who reports that when Yankees GM Brian Cashman was asked if there is any truth to this rumor Cashman said “no”. The Reds are ...
Rumor: Reds, Yankees Interested in Piazza
UPDATE : (April 16, 8:33am EST) - Dusty Baker is refuting the Gotham Baseball story below, according to the Dayton Daily News . Baker says that when he read about the rumor, “(It was) the first time I’ve heard Piazza’s name. I thought he was retired, although I know he can still hit.” Still, when asked if he thought the Reds needed some more right-handed power, ...
Reds chasing Mike Piazza?
Dusty Baker says he hasn’t been telling people that Mike Piazza is going to sign with the Reds. I’ll believe that transaction is going to happen when I see it. Piazza would provide some much-needed right-handed power, but I really don’t think he’s a viable option at catcher at this point in his career.
Reds Close To Signing Piazza?
According to Gotham Baseball, manager Dusty Baker feels “confident” that the Cincinnati Reds will sign 39-year old catcher Mike Piazza . Seems a bit odd, as Piazza will be a defensive liability at the position. Still, i’m sure Piazza can hit 15-20 home-runs in Cincinnati’s launching pad. The Reds were supposed to be looking for a “throw and catch” guy, but ...
Gotham Baseball: Healey: Piazza Coming To The Bronx?
Brought to you by the Laughter Heals Foundation… Up until the last few days, Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman has often resisted the temptation of putting Mike Piazza in pinstripes.  But with his current catching situation (and don’t forget prospect Francisco Cervelli is still out with a broken wrist) and the very aggressive Reds trying to sign Piazza to a contract, Cashman and his ...
Say It Ain’t So, Piazza A Yankee?
Mark Healey of Gotham Baseball Magazine is reporting: With his current catching situation (and don’t forget prospect Francisco Cervelli is still out with a broken wrist) and the very aggressive Reds trying to sign Mike Piazza to a contract, Yankees GM Brian Cashman and his advisors — we’re told by a team insider — are meeting to discuss whether a Piazza move is the ...
Piazza Measured for Pinstripes?
With the current state of Yankee catching, one intriguing option has surfaced - Mike Piazza. While his throwing ability is somewhere between Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi, Piazza is a very adept game-caller and has shown an ability to work well with young pitchers. Many reports have Piazza close to signing a deal with the Cincinnati Reds, though others are stating the Reds want more of a ...

The Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees are both interested in bringing catcher Mike Piazza on board this season, according to Mark Healey of Gotham Baseball . Odds and Ends: Schilling, Piazza, Howard
Tax day roundup... Some mild drama over whether Curt Schilling would consider pitching for the Yankees next year.  He reiterated that he won't.  It takes two to tango, anyway.
