Wayne Krivsky Fired DAMN YOU, GARY MAJEWSKI! The Cincinnati Reds have fired general manager Wayne Krivsky less than three years into his tenure, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Krivsky, a former assistant GM with the Minnesota Twins, was hired in 2006, succeeding Dan O’Brien. He was the first general manager to be hired under the Reds ownership group led by Bob Castellini and is in the last year of a three-year contract. The Reds are currently 9-12 and 5½ games behind the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs.

When your boss hires a guy who's better at your job than you are, you have to know your days are numbered: The Cincinnati Reds have fired general manager Wayne Krivsky and replaced him with former St. Louis Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty . . . Krivsky knew his job was in jeopardy when owner Bob Castellini hired Jocketty as a special consultant in January. The two were friends from Castellini's days in the Cardinals' ownership group. Despite the fact that Jocketty was aboard, I didn't really see this coming - Krivsky hadn't been on the job that long. ...

The Cincinnati Reds have fired GM Wayne Krivsky and hired Walt Jocketty to take his place. It's not like I didn't see this coming but it is surprising that he happened this early in the season. Bill at Redleg Nation has the same question. Basically the Reds aren't winning and as Hal McCoy points out, Bob Castellini is a business man who wants bang for his buck. Walt Jocketty will take this team where it needs to go in the immediate future. They will win now. The question that I have is, how about 10 years down the road? Walt Jocketty ...

... The Reds have hired as their general manager Walt Jocketty, the greatly successful former Cardinals GM. We'll see if Jocketty can recapture his winning formula from St. Louis, which focused on concentrating scarce resources on star-quality prospects and surrounding them largely with reclamation-project veterans (in a sense, not so different from how the Reds were run the past decade, but better), and trading actively while eschewing big free agent signings. ...
