Gilbert Arenas is accepting less money from the Washington Wizards, invoking an attitude far, far removed from the world of his working-class fans.Gilbertology found this 7/4/2008 on blog.washingtonpost.com
One quote from Gilbert Arenas says it all: "What can I do for my family with $127 million that I can't do with $111 million?" Arenas told me a little while ago that he has agreed to a six-year, $111 million contract. The Wiz had offered the maximum ...vjrabid posted 7/4/2008 from cmnetwork.blogspot.com
Now, in the NBA world of glory, green and groupies, Gilbert Arenas is not afraid to be seen eating alone or being open about being single, so he's got some great self-control, just how a man should be. That makes him bad, badder than a Delta Force commando, and with his new $111 million contract, Gilbert Arenas is the Baddest Rich Man on Earth, and the Richest Bad Man on Earth.Gilbertology found this 7/4/2008 on washingtontimes.com

As they said on ESPN today, Arenas is no Mother Teresa by turning down $16 million, but he's still getting major bank.
Saving his team $3 milllion a year helps them sign who, a Devean George low/mid-level exception... giving up money to help the team would mean allowing the team to sign another bench player - not a bench warmer.
Still, it's a nice trend to see a player not take the full amount offered. Elton Brand is reportedly considering signing w/ the Clippers for less than market value as well.
