Last October, Jeff Clark from CelticsBlog coordinated yet another team-by-team season preview, featuring 63 NBA bloggers this time. As in 2006-07 and 2007-08, overoptimism was a general trend. As a result, this season brought plenty of disappointment: bloggers predicted a total of 236 more wins than their teams actually achieved.
Now that we have 3 years of predictions under our belts, I decided to plot actual vs. predicted wins for each team (throwing in 2005-06 actuals for context). Here's the result; click the team names below to update.
Interesting examples: ridiculous accuracy, great expectations, mediocrity defined, depressing trend.
Finally, this table compares the 2008-09 preview predictions to the each team's actual win total on the year. It's sortable—you can toggle the sort and direction by clicking the column headings.

Ryne Nelson Excellent breakdown, Jason! I guess it's a good thing I didn't partake in record-predicting because I'm the descrepencies would make everyone look like gurus.-
Jason Ha - you'll notice I didn't make any predictions this year, either.

Zorgon Wow....it's amazing to know that I was the only Blog to predict their teams wins in the teens....and aside from 3 Shades of blue, the only blog to predict below 30.
And, if P.J. was still coaching, I'm confident my number would have stuck.
Anyway, fantastic work Jason, interesting stuff to look at.

Patrick Great stuff - I love the graphs. And the trends are really fun to look at.
Oh, those overenthusiastic Wizards fans....

FLCeltsFan Great job! I love the graphs!
I underestimated the Celtics by 2 this year but was close! If anyone had told me that KG would be out for 24 games and that we would lose Tony, Leon, Big Baby, Rondo, Ray and Perk all for portions of the season, I never would have guessed 60 wins let alone 62. Mindboggling!

First of all, I contributed to With-Malices playoff predictions, which actually turned out to be very boring to look at unless you look at the number of games it was predicted for each team to take to win their respective series, and even then, it's pretty boring.
