Reyes to stay with Cards as long reliever
Reyes to stay with Cards as long reliever
Apparently those six shutout innings Tuesday WERE good enough to keep Anthony Reyes on the Cardinals roster. The Cardinals righthander will not be in the starting rotation but will be on the 25-man roster as a long reliever, according to a team source.

What More Can He Do?
C70 At The Bat — Let's look at some spring stats, shall we?  While it's not totally indicative of results, let's take the easy way out and compare ERAs of the projected starting rotation: Thompson 2.76 Lohse 3.60 Wainwright 3.92 Wellemeyer 4.05 Looper 7.98 And then, the pitcher that needs to go to Memphis, apparently: Reyes 3.32 Fungoes has a great take on the inconsistency of LaRussa and company in using spring results.   It boils down to this: if great springs are why Thompson and Kyle McClellan are making the rotation and ...

What’s a guy gotta do?
Cardinals Diaspora — ... stats, as we’ve mentioned ad nauseam, are a deceitful thing, but Reyes pitched like a man out of time yesterday, building on a decent little run this month. I’ve been irrationally exuberant on Reyes’ stock before. This time around though, it’s tough to read reports of a guy throwing well all spring as part of a team so desperate for starting pitchers they’re starting the season with a rotation consisting of 60% converted relievers, only to see him exiled to triple-A. ...

At Least Ten Teams Scout Anthony Reyes
MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com — ... According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, scouts from at least ten teams observed Anthony Reyes' fine start against Washington yesterday.  He says the Cards have made Reyes' availability known. Reyes, 26, already has 250 Triple A innings and 200 big league innings under his belt.  Despite an awful ERA and record last year for the Cards, his strikeout and walk rates weren't too bad.  Everyone seems to believe there's something more here, but the potential won't be realized in St. Louis.  He's not getting ...

New Season, Same Story
STLSportsMag — And so the Anthony Reyes saga carries on.  According to Joe Strauss , a source has indicated that Reyes will not be in the rotation, but will remain in the bullpen as a long reliever to start the season. I've spoken my piece on him numerous times and my opinion remains - I think he still has the potential to be a solid Major League starter and it's a shame the Cardinals aren't patient enough to see it through.  When Todd Wellemeyer and Brad Thompson (and Braden Looper for that matter) are the alternatives on a team that will struggle to break .500, there is no reason to avoid ...

Apocalypse Now?
Redbird Ramblings — ... now, el diablo, joe strauss of of the pd is reporting that reyes has made the team as a long reliever. huh? I’m I dreaming or is this a nightmare? guess he made the team. I’m quite the conspiracy theorist, so I have a theory. maybe tlr decided to put anthony on the team just to shut everyone that complains up and send him down when one of our many starters is healthy enough to join the team. I’m happy for now though… ...
