Rosenthal's Latest: Rockies Could Trade Holliday
Published 5/15/2008 by Cork Gaines at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
In Ken Rosenthal's latest column, he sees Matt Holliday as a prime candidate to be traded this summer. Rosenthal notes that the Rockies are already 10 games back and have very little chance of signing Holliday to an extension. Holliday is signed through '09 with $13MM due next season.
Previously, Rosenthal speculated
that the Rockies might be willing to go to 6 years/$96MM to keep last
year's NL MVP runner-up. However, all we know of Holliday's demands are
that he wants more than a four-year deal.
Rosenthal thinks that the Rockies could also seek to move Brian Fuentes and Garrett Atkins. Fuentes is eligible for free ...

Matt Holliday? An Indian?

... quietly been one of the best in the bigs for the last several years. Oh, and his name would look excellent in an Indians jersey - even if he couldn’t wear his #5 (Lou Boudreau). But why would one of the best players in the league be up for grabs? Well, after losing the World Series to the Red Sox last season, the Rockies have struggled out of the gate and could be one of the first teams to enter the market with some talent for sale. And talent this is. Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal has the goods . Among the clubs that could pursue Holliday: Cleveland. The Indians need to ...

Rockies Would Be Smart to Deal Holliday
Published 5/16/2008 by Bill Baer at Baseball Digest Daily
FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Colorado Rockies “almost certainly would consider trading [Matt] Holliday,” their left fielder and runner-up in NL MVP voting last season. They would be smart to trade him if they feel they have no shot at winning the NL West. However, if the Rockies win three of their next five games starting tonight, that would leave them at 18-27, exactly where they were after 45 games last season when they went on to win the NL pennant. Simply put, Matt Holliday is overrated. He’s a product of hitter-friendly Coors ...
