The timing is kind of a donkey punch with the Fiesta Bowl coming up, but I guess you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

As someone FROM WVU, I'm glad he made this announcement quickly, rather than stringing us along like the Alabama fiasco last year.  Now, I just hope he'll do the right thing and coach the Fiesta Bowl BEFORE heading to Michigan.  So much for the loyalty to his home state and school.  Money talks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the second time in a year that a West Virginia coach has bolted for Michigan?

... One other significant piece of news today: WVU Fball coach Rich Rodriguez ditches the Mountaineers to fill the coaching vacancy at Michigan. It's amazing how far WVU has fallen in 3 weeks after the incredible upset by our Panthers, and they are still going to the Fiesta Bowl (but no-one seems to care--and I love it.) ...

New Foe For Ohio State Comes From WVU
Published 12/16/2007 by Cherie at TSD Magazine
ESPN.com says that Michigan has found their new head coach. Rich Rodriguez will be announced tomorrow morning at a news conference. He is the second coach from WVU that Michigan has lured away from them. John Beilein, last year's WVU men's basketball coach, is now the Michigan men's basketball coach. I guess when Michigan wants something all they have to do is go to West Virginia to get it. Well Rich, congrats on the new job. No pressure though by the way but if you don't beat Ohio State this year, fans will most likely be calling for your head. Good Luck! This Buckeye fan ...

How do you know your football team is not a legitimate marquee program?  When your alumnus head coach has a 60-26 record, brought the school to two BCS games and still peaces for another program.  That’s right.  Rich Rodriguez has left the “great” state of West Virginia for the University of Michigan.  This isn’t the first coach The Wolverines have pilfered the Mountaineers either.  Rodriguez joins former West Virginia basketball coach John Beilein at Michigan. ...

They were already hated by the state of Ohio, and now I'm pretty sure they're hated by the state of West Virginia as well. ... as the excuse to why he left to take the Michigan job nobody else wanted. If this is true, then not only is West-By-God-Virginia going to have difficult time luring a prime head coach to Morgantown, but they'll never "get over the hump" as well. The school already admits convicted felons into the program but if they won't pony up (or at least accept from deep pocketed boosters) small amounts of $$$$$ to keep a native son and alum, what makes anybody think they'd do it for somebody else? As for Rodriquez himself, I can't say I was very impressed with the "National ...

Steve Slaton: An Insider's Perspective

... I believe the Texans are going to love what Steve Slaton brings to the table. He comes from an outstanding family; he’s soft-spoken, humble and will do anything to help the team. One specific example I can provide was his willingness to sacrifice carries for the betterment of the team last year. Despite being a top Heisman Trophy candidate, former coach Rich Rodriguez thought having Steve line up some in the slot and be more involved in the passing game would be beneficial to the offense. How many players with Steve’s pedigree would be willing to do that? He’s ...
