The Future is Now

JaMarcus Russell’s agents reportedly agreed on a six-year $68 million dollar contract this evening. I m not going to report on the details of the contract, so if you want to know exactly how much money Russell will earn, then head over to ESPN.com .  What I do know is that when he signs his contract in the next 24hrs, he must be ready to work. Unless the season becomes a complete wash, you won’t see him start until the end of the season, or even next year.  He’ll still see playing time, but I don’t think he is, or will be, the best decision to start this season.  Since he isn’t going to be starting, he needs to find ways to show he’s worth the money he’ll be earning this year. His teammates will know how much he’s earning, and in a professional sport where there’s little guaranteed money, they won’t let him get away with anything.  Not only will he be paid more than most players, but he won’t have a lot of pressure to be ...

... Oakland Raiders: The Raiders finally signed JaMarcus Russell last night. This is big news, since it ends the longest hold out since Bryant McKinnie in 2002, and the first time since Bo Jackson in1986 that the #1 overall pick missed a regular season game. This also means that there's now a chance that the Vikings will get to face an Oakland team starting a rookie quarterback in Week 11. And if Russell is starting, I hope it means that Josh McCown has washed out of the league for good. That guy can rot in Hell. ...
