Red Sox News & Notes - Thanksgiving Day
Published 11/22/2007 by Ian at SOX & Dawgs
... Red Sox news are thin like my waist line before eating a turkey dinner. Although today, I probably won’t be having a turkey dinner since I had it last night. Not much coming out of the Red Sox yesterday other than Daisuke Matsuzaka is back in Japan for a little while and he held an impromptu press conference, answering a few questions. You can see the transcript in the first link.

... Jon Lester . The Sox would likely have to include at least one other proven major league talent, plus one, more likely two, other minor leaguers. The Twins are known to be high on Crisp. Other objectives during the hot stove season include working on a contract extension for manager Terry Francona, adding bullpen arms and bolstering the bench. But adding Santana, and keeping him away from the New York Yankees , would make the Red Sox significantly better. Source: Boston Herald Related: Clay Buchholz , Jon Lester , Jacoby Ellsbury , ...
Santana Counters Twins' Offer

... Michael Silverman notes that the Red Sox will certainly be involved if the Twins start entertaining offers. An offer of Coco Crisp, Clay Buchholz or Jon Lester, and a third solid prospect might be their proposal. Seems that the Yanks might offer Melky Cabrera and Phil Hughes, while the Mets would start with Carlos Gomez. ...
Boston Herald: Silverman: Sox would kick tires on a Johan Santana deal

Boston Herald: Silverman: Sox would kick tires on a Johan Santana deal And the pressure monitoring system is in full swing… Indications are that the Twins have already inquired about center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury and right-hander Clay Buchholz, plus other top prospects. A more realistic package, perhaps, would have Coco Crisp filling Minnesota’s hole in center field that free agent Torii Hunter left behind and one of two top starting prospects, Buchholz or lefty Jon Lester, entering the mix. The Sox would likely have to include at least one other proven major league talent, ...

... Also, Johan Santana appears like he's going to be traded. It would be insane to see someone like Santana go to a team like the Red Sox. But that's the way of the MLB this year. And it's something that I'm not very thankful for. ...

... opens the door for one of their young OF to be traded in a Miguel Cabrera deal. Although the Angels severly overpaid for Hunter if they are able to pull off a Miguel Cabrera deal they will be one of the top hitting teams in baseball next year. In Red Sox related news the Sox are apparently in on Johan Santana, but unwilling to part with both Buchholz and Ellsbury. The Red Sox probably will offer Coco Crisp, Buchholz or Lester, and at least two other solid minor leaguers. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?articleid=1046361

... That leaves us (as well as Michael Silverman) wondering what the Sox would give up for a chip such as that. (We're already on the record as saying we'd rather have Dan Haren, but you don't turn your nose up at the best pitcher in the game, period): ...
Santana Has Full No-Trade Clause
Published 11/24/2007 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
... The fine Cot's Baseball Contracts site indicates that Johan Santana only received full no-trade protection for 2008 if he finished top three in the Cy Young voting. However, I do not believe that is accurate.
There are multiple reports from good reporters with solid sourcing indicating that Santana has a full no-trade clause. There's Kat O'Brien, Buster Olney, Michael Silverman, and Joe Christensen all saying it's full. It's safe to assume that Santana controls his own fate and can kill any deal. ...
