... Today in my column on Baseball Prospectus I take a look at minor league outfielders using the SFR system. As I've done previously I take a look at the leaders and trailers at all levels before aggregating across all positions and leagues to list the best and worst defenders in the outfield among minor leaguers in 2007. ...
Smell the glove-outfielders

... In Dan Fox’s latest column at BP, he looks at minor league outfielders using his SFR (Simple Fielding Runs) system. He has some pretty interesting findings, including a pretty vast disconnect between what the scouts and stats say about ...
Five Questions: Minnesota Twins

... is the third candidate for the center field job. He also projects to be about a replacement level hitter this year. There's also some evidence that Pridie is the best fielder of the three main candidates. He can field, but over a full season he's overmatched at the plate. It reminds me of when the Kansas City Royals brought Andres Blanco up from the minors for a short time; Blanco didn't do himself any favors ...
Alexi Casilla Is An Awful Fielder?/Expect Team Defense To Improve

... 2008 And, well, that doesn't look so great for Casilla, does it? Now, that's only 151 BIZ, which is really a very small sample size, so that's another reason for the question mark on the title of this post. But it's not exactly making me feel good about his defense. Also, in 2007, Casilla had a .784 RZR with 134 BIZ. Somewhat better, but still bad. RZR isn't everything, but it's just about all the fielding information I know of for Casilla. The only other bit that I've run across is Dan Fox's* Simple Fielding Runs --a stat he devised while he was at Baseball Prospectus. SFR ...
